Looking for opinions on a decent on-road / off-road tire

I'm in the market for some 33" tires. I know this subject has been beaten to death just about everywhere on the internet, so I'm not looking to start a "which tire is best thread". I'm simply looking to gather some feedback from you guys as to what a decent 33" tire might be.

My problem with the mud terrain tires is that I worry they won't do well in the rain and snow versus say an all terrain tire. Am I wrong in my thought process? I've had my eye on the Cooper Discoverer STT PRO tires, but again, being a mud terrain I'm not sure how this will perform on a vehicle that is driven 80% of the time on road and only 20% off road.

I think you'd be very happy with the Goodyear Duratracs. They are a fantastic tire for both on road and off road use. Also, they have that mud terrain look as well!

My best experience was the BFG KO. They lasted 8 years and still had tread when I finally bought new tires. Can't remember the miles but I put on over 12K miles a year.

I will let you know on the Cooper STT pro tires. Should be here next week. Your results may vary because my LJ is just a play toy, not a dd. Altough I can let you know how they do in the snow cause it's coming soon here. Probably take a little day trip to Ouray when I get them on just to see how they do on highway, I think most os the passes are already closed or too muddy for me. I hate mud.

Oh do let us know! I too have been very interested in the STT PRO, I am just wondering how they fair on-road in different conditions. I already know they'll do wonderful off road since I used to have a set of the regular STTs.

Put them on today, havent gone anywhere yet. One thing that was curious was that going to a 33x12.50x15 over a 315x75rx16 was that bumper height in front only lost about an inch. Have run 35s on previous jeeps but decided to go with 33s on this build because truthfully, I havent seen much of a difference with the guys that I wheel with that were running 33 against my 35s. Price difference only about 10 bucks a tire difference and fender clearance might be a tad better on the 33s even with bump stops and all that goes with lifting 4 inches. Will be interesting to do a real comparison, but for the cost of new tires and wheels, it is what it is now.

Let us know your impressions as you break them in, I'm very curious about their performance in the rain and snow.

I also agree with you on the 33" and 35" thing. I personally decided 33" is enough for me. Most of the guys I've seen seem to get by just fine with 33" tires on the trail. 35" is nice, but I'm not sure that you gain much with 35" tires aside from a bit more ground clearance.

I really love the KO2s I just got. We finally got some freezing rain/ice, snow, and they were awesome. I love the look of 'em too, especially the sides.

I found my perfect tire, it's the Duratrac! No complaints thus far.
