I don't really understand the hate around the 4 cylinder

Some of us say that. I don't like the power of the 4.0. No way I'd be happy with less.
Good post... I think inside the Jeep world that view is strong .. and I think to the general public a Jeep is a Jeep often.

I am really convinced that fiat-chrysler is really missing the mark with what Jeep owners have wanted for a long time and want to do... More power.

Why do I have the six? Because they don't come in eights. Who buys a four pack of beer?

I actually like my 2.4 6 speed better off road because of the weight savings, but it sucks trying to stay with traffic on the highway.

Just did a test run up the coast on 101 for about 95 miles just to give her a good workout and test for issues post frame swap. For the naysayers I did 188.2 miles on 10.2 gallons which equates to 18.45 MPG. The road is a single lane mountainous ride with occasional passing lanes and I maintained the real speed limit which is 55 to 60 mph and this was not intended to be a mileage run.

I do, but they are usually at or over 10% abv. ;)

Get outta here with that IPA garbage.

Hey now - I like all GOOD beer. The Garage Beer Fridge will vouch for me.

Why yes, I am deliberately driving this 4 vs 6 thread off topic :)

I don't hate the Jeep 4 banger. I've had a number of old Military Jeeps that had 4 bangers in them. I even had a TJ with a 4 banger a few years ago. Don't hate them, just don't want one. The 6 is just better. the 4 is not bad, it's just not as good. After all, over the years Jeeps have increased in size and weight. Bigger motor has to help.

Look at it like this. You could sweep your driveway with a small wisk broom, or a 24" wide push broom. Both with get the task done, but one will accomplish the task with considerably less frustration. When you wash dishes...cut the sponge in half...call that the 4 cylinder....use a full size sponge and call that the 6 cylinder....which sucks less?

Would you rather change a tire using a 12" long wrench handle or a 20" long wrench handle?

More power is better. Less power is lame.
What is this "washing dishes" of which you speak?

I have the 2.4 with 4.10s and 31's.

Fine around town and on a trail/backroad.

Interstate is terrible. Considering an LS swap, gears or a different jeep. Maybe a totaled 4.0 frame swap.

I don't hate the 4-cylinder.... I don't have one to hate. I've never bought one... and I never will unless a V8 is about to go into it.... But if I did that it's probably an LJ and it would be a 4.0.

I'm not going to put down anybody's vehicle or their decision... If the 4.0 didn't have its strong points... Reliability, durability and smooth torque... I would have a hard time liking it ...and I could like it a lot more with about 50 more horsepower.
