Have I already defeated my own TJ purpose?

Some of these guys want that old super expensive automatic convertible TJ top that lasted a year at best. Anyone remember it? That's what I thought.
I just for the life of me can't figure out why someone would bash the Trektop NX.

Unless....they installed it wrong or got frazzled with the instructions.

That is a damn good top!!

I'll argue in favor of keeping the hardtop and getting a soft top to. The hardtop is much quieter and definitely more secure. It will not need replaced like soft top fabric will. Getting items out of the back is so much easier when you don't have to fight the zippers of the rear window. As far as storage I don't find it that difficult. In the summer I set the top on a rolling scaffold and have no trouble parking the jeep in the garage with the scaffold and top in front. I remove and replace it by myself and I have an LJ. It takes me about 45 minutes to switch from hardtop/ full doors to soft top and half doors.

Soft top only here too. I DO have two sets of doors - half & full - both with factory mirrors installed and both sets keyed alike to match all the other locks on the rig. Still want to buy some Bulldawg half door uppers; seems to be on my long term wish list.

I keep wanting to put a full door on the right side, a half door on the left side - then go down to Cars & Coffee and see if anyone can put their iPhone down long enough to notice...

I will say the only advantage to a hard top in my opinion is security.

If you take care of the Zippers these modern day Bestop and factory options last a very very long time. As in over a decade...easy!!
We have some extreme weather here. Hot and humid as hell in the summer and sometimes brutally cold in the winter.

No issues with good fabric and stitching if you take care of the zippers. That's the key. Don't stress the zippers.

This stuff works great

I have a Rampage frameless. No issues in the winter. I like the ability to pull the side and rear windows and just run the "safari" top all summer.
But in the winter I hate the rear window/tailgate. It's a PITA to get in/out of.

Your profile says you're in Washington?

Framless tops suck ass. I hate mine so much I want to throw it in the trash. Some will disagree (and that's fine), but never in a million years would I choose a frameless top over a framed top again, especially after owning both. In my defense, this TJ came with one from the previous owner.
Sorry Chris I am in Australia W.A Western Australia lol Winter does not exist here! dry heat all year with a few days rain here and there. I dont get out of shorts all year round.

Wow that black paintwork!

Did I say i have the original soft top with door surrounds? way too many parts for my liking that's why I was thinking frameless or Trek top for simplicity.

I've heard good and bad about it. Many like the flip back sun roof.

Though I hear it's more of a pain to put on than the OEM, and that the rear window is also worse. I HATE the OEM rear window. If the rear window was easier to deal with than OEM, I'd buy the Trektop NX

i will come to the defense of the Rampage, which I’ve now run for many years. Love the flexibility of quickly pulling the sides and rear window to run a bikini. I do have the sailcloth version, which makes a big difference. I also think it looks much better on an LJ than the stock soft top.

Such was my level of commitment to the Rampage that I had to do this minor mod to get it to fit...

So not 5 minutes after I posted this, I went out to put the windows on the Rampage top because it is raining here in Nashville today.

And sure enough, this happens:

Rampage sucks.

How is it more secure? I can pop the rear window open in 30 seconds tops.

p.s. You can also unlock any car door with a potato.🤫

I can pop the front door lock in less that 2 seconds. (I learned from the scumbag who tried to steal mine)🤬. Most thieves don't know much about different models of cars but do know that convertible soft tops are easy to slice open. I've heard stories of people who don't even lock their doors and still get their top cut. When I daily drove my Jeep I removed the front door locks and installed electric. I also kept a padlock on my swing out tire carried to protect the back. After I did this I didn't have anymore attempts to break in to my Jeep with the hartop installed.
