Opinions on Aluminum Trail Doors

Just wondering, because I never thought about it, but why are the non-OEM hinges a no-go? Is it due to having to figure out the pattern or something to add mirrors?

A lot of people like the OEM style hinges because they have a cleaner look, and more importantly, they are easy to drill out to accept factory style mirrors.

For reference: Most trail doors have these or similar style hinges without upgrading to OEM style.

I have to admit I think they all look really good, but being able to work with different uppers, is kind of important for what I'm planning/assuming.

I agree, I like my JCR's so much that I am going to get the Bestop uppers; just so I can keep them on for another month or 2 out of the year.

If I had found this thread before I ordered I probably would have gone that route. Are those the ones that slide open? or are they just similar to all the other uppers?

The bestop uppers that are $440? Or have you found them for a better price?

I really have to get something going with my half doors. They dont match and the quotes I have received to paint to match have been more than I would pay for aluminum doors and bestop uppers.

I am looking into the normal soft uppers.

After purchasing aluminum half doors, I don't see the point of adding an upper. They aren't going to support the upper very solid and they also don't seal. If uppers are what you are after id go after OEM half doors.

Oh those aren't what I was thinking of. I've seen a sliding upper that looked nice, but with trail doors, I don't quite understand have a good seal or anything because I thought they weren't going to seal in pretty much anyway, just something to knock off most of the rain and keep honest people honest.
There is a version with a sliding window for about $630.

My doors don't seal all the way and I don't imagine the uppers will 100% either, maybe enough to keep the morning wind off of you in the spring and fall mornings.

I just figured for the upper halves, just to knock of some rain/wind and keep those walking by in a parking lot from just reaching inside the Jeep and grabbing stuff. A Jeep isn't hard to break into, but anything with the soft doors or top is open in a few seconds with a knife.

Just a note on this. They offer factory hinges they will ship you with them. But the doors will not be drilled for the hinges. They will come with the holes for the smaller hinges and you will have to try and line up and drill them yourself.

I like my Savvy trail doors a lot. But if you are really concerned about OEM hinges. I would not get them.

In regards to people talking half vs full doors. My new OEM half doors are the best thing since Sliced Bread.
Do you have a picture of the inside of the Savvy doors? I’m curious to see how the forward latch system works.

JCR: $ 439. I have a 10% off code, no tax, free shipping
Pros- Will accept Bestop soft uppers with no modifications or add-ons
-Factory looking hinges, will accept factory mirror by simply redrilling holes
-Least expensive option

Cons- Have to reach back to unlatch the door, unlike the Savvy
hey was that a one time JCR code? or are you able to share? I'd be interested in getting some half doors too and this thread was great.
