So ok I used Back to Black on my sun faded hardtop and it looked great but then a very heavy rainstorm caused it to run down the paintwork and windows (TJ is all Black) question is will penetrol wash off in the rain and cause streak runs all over the paintwork like the Back to Black did?

Seems there's Bugger all wrong with this jeep 06 if all I am doing is cosmetics but hey it makes me happy :)

Has it "Run" in heavy rain? took me so much longer to get rid of the Back to Black streak marks than applying the stuff in the first place!
I see your jeep is White so maybe you don't see the oily streaks like I do on black paint?

Penetrol doesn't run. You wipe it on, wait a few minutes and wipe it off. It doesn't leave streaks or feel greasy to the touch. It doesn't feel like anything is even on there. There is nothing left behind to run.

I'm about to do this. So you just used a microfiber cloth or something? Not in direct sunlight I guess? Just one pass or did you do more than one coat the first time you applied it?

I did it under the carport out of direct sunlight. I applied it with a cotton rag, an old tee shirt I believe. I just wiped it on, waited about 3 minutes and wiped it off with a microfiber cloth. Don't wait too long or it will get tacky and harder to wipe off. So do it in sections like half of the top, then the other half. One side, then the other and finally the back. I think that's how I did it. It's very easy, don't over think it, you won't mess it up. Post pics when your done and show us how it turned out.

Try f11 Top Coat, it ain't cheap, but it lasts a long time (water wash only after) and it actually brings black back to life.
I only use it on my trim now.

Yep, you’ve recommended it a few times. I’m happy with my trim, which I painted. For the hardtop, I’ve already purchased Penetrol. But I will keep your recommendation in mind.

I did the pentrol on mine. We did it two summers ago. I used foam brushes to do mine and a cloth rag. Do not use a roller like some say, it will bubble. I need to redo my lower parts and sides. The black you see in my profile pic here is after doing it. The grey you see at the bottom is where i missed because i was afraid of getting it all over the floor. When i relocate in a few weeks i am removing the top for the summer and will redo it again. It has not faded or anything. I keep the hard top on all winter and it sees the touchless automatic wash a few times. It also gets hand washed. No fade, no problems.

Thanks. Yep, I did one side this week, and I got some streaks when it dried. I think that's because I used a brush to apply it. I'm going to do the other half with a rag and see if it looks better.

Brushes are def a no no. Its gotta go on smooth. The foam brush i liked because the stuff soaks up into foam or fabric. The foam brush allowed me to apply it without getting it on my hands. Its nasty stuff, you dont want it on your hands.

I wouldn't use a brush, I think that applies too thick of a coat. Use a clean cloth to apply as thin of a coat as possible and a microfiber cloth to buff it off and use plenty of elbo grease when you buff it. I think I went over mine several times when buffing to make sure there were no streaks. Even after the whole top was done, I went back and buffed some more.

Ace, Lowes, etc. have it for about $10. Amazon was more like $25, if I remember correctly. It's by "Flood", here.

Can someone please add a link to buy some penetrol? I’m not having luck using Google. Thanks!

Make sure to wear gloves, it's highly carcinogenic. My BIL died of a rare blood cancer after being exposed to one of it's active ingredients- Benzene.
