My review of the Vision X Vortex 7" LED headlights & Vision X 4.7" CG2 Light Cannon LED Fog Lights

Thanks for giving me something else to spend a huge pile of money on!

Is it possible to wire the halos separately to an ignition controlled source so they are just on at all times when the Jeep in running? Would there be any problems with that?
There wouldn't be a problem. The wire for the halos is about 12 inches though, so you would have to attach a longer wire to each headlight's halo and find a source that is ignition controlled.

Here's the headlights in the daytime, about 3:00 PM PST. Just wanted to give you guys an idea of what they look like in daylight.

Keep in mind that these photos do not capture the light that great. The halos are extremely bright in the day, so bright that you can easily see them on, even in direct sunlight. So consider that when you look at these photos, that you're missing out on how bright they actually are in person. I'd also like to add that while the lights appear to be blue (especially the fogs), this is just poor lighting. They are in fact very white, whiter than my Truck Lite LED headlights were.

Here's the halos alone in the parking light position:

And here's the low beams:

Here's some shots with the Light Cannon fog lights using the "wide flood" pattern lenses (which would be equivalent to a fog light lens for street use):

I picked up a set of these used for $150 a few months back; kinda weird paying that much for used headlights, but so far they're working quite well!

I'm trying to wire in the halos but I want them independent from everything else, so I can turn them on and off without the headlights or running lights on. I've got a switch that already that has power from the dash for the LED, and has a common ground for the switch; I'm thinking that means the switch LEDs and the accessory it's connected to.

It's also got a pin that says "from source with the inline fuse" and another saying "to relay or accessory". I've tried connecting the halo to either of these, as well as both together, but no luck. Any ideas on what I'm missing?

EDIT:
Well, I'm stupid. I wired it from the high beams, to the switch, and back to the halos, and it didn't work. So, I gave up. While sitting on the toilet, I realized why it failed; high beams weren't getting any power unless they were on! So, sure enough, with the high beams on and the switch on, the halos worked. So, I'm halfway there. Now, the question is, where should I tap into for power? I think my ARB compressor and lockers are running off of the ignition? I can't imagine it's a good idea to keep tapping into that, or that's appropriate for headlights? I guess I could just go straight to the battery, couldn't I?

With the Hi4 adapter, you get high and low beams (plus halo rings if you wired them up to your parking ambers), so all three sets illuminate. Regular lights will also use the halo if it's wired.

My next round of light projects is going to be an experiment with a shotky diode to make the halos blink with the side markers when I use my daytime running lights. Just waiting for my parts to come in for it, it might be cool (or not, we'll see).
Did you manage to wire it up with the diode to the side markers? If you did can we hear about what you did?

Just a heads up, the member your quoting quit the forum years ago.

Maybe someone else will help you out though.

You're not going to hear back from him. He got pissed off about Jerry a few years ago and never came back.

Hello, I found this thread on google and thought it would be fun to join in. Its my first post.
I like VisionX products. I run four 4.7” VX CG2 multi LED lights. I have had them for three years and they held up great. Look brand new still.

tossed some photos up for anyone’s viewing pleasure. Hill is 530’ feet away. One photo is packaging, second all four lights on one spot and third has all lights angled out.

God speed Jeep owners and OP.

Thanks for the input! I bought the vision x headlights. They are a bit pricy but they are worth every penny. Definitely ganna invest in the fog lights one day.

Still a big fan of my 4.5" light cannons, I hit a deer and broke the housing in half on both, welded it back together and they still work 100%, lenses didn't crack or anything. you can now pick them up for only ~$200 a pair with a harness, which is what I paid a while back for an open box.

I point the driver side straight ahead and the passenger side off to the side a little into the woods, they're so bright you really don't need a flood except for slow cornering.

If you are gonna get an amber cover for them I'd recommend the spot amber, I tried the flood pattern and it wasted so much light it didn't even shine farther than my headlights and really didn't go much wider than no filter. With the spot amber they go almost as far as no cover and still get decent side illumination, they're also amazing in the snow.

And for some reason the spot amber doesn't seem to bother oncoming drivers while still giving decent illumination, didn't get flashed once running them on unlit roads and highway for over 70 miles the other night to see if they were too bright, I turned them off if someone was directly infront of me traveling the same direction, that did seem a little too bright, though no one made any gestures.

Just saw this thread, thanks for the tip about the harness that allows you to run the lows and high beams at the same time. I ordered them for my TJ which has LEDs and sent the link to a friend who is building an XJ with an H4 conversion.

Chris, thank for the light review! You front bumper caught my eye, is it custom? If not, where could I find it?

Thread resurrection in 3...2...1... I can’t believe no one posted any night time pics of these headlights to show the actual output from behind the wheel? Anyone have any comparison pics from their stock lights to these shining in the same area or against a wall to show the light cutoff/spread?

My kids TJ has horrible stock headlights and needing an upgrade badly, she likes the blacked out look, anyone have the newer “black chrome” version, would like to see what they look like installed also.

I’m sure these are as good as everyone says, would just like to see a few night time shots before pulling the trigger if possible.
