I'm in the works of finishing up my sound system. I have Polk DB462 in the front, Polk DB522 in the sound bar, both have polyfill stuffing in place. I have this Kenwood head unit, and am looking to put an 8" Kicker comp Sub in my ammo can center console. I am not sure how subwoofers work or amplifiers work, will this Kicker 42PXA2001 work well with the sub? and does anyone know if I can use that amp to power my other 4 speakers as well? Or would I need separate amps. Please give me recommendations too since I have no experience with any subs/amps.

Not quite enough power. You want to match or exceed the rms power rating of the amp compared to the subwoofer. The kicker sub is rated for 300w rms, and I use the same sub you showed powered by this amp. I wired it so both are running at 300w and the power is matched. I can walk you through how I mounted this underneath the steering wheel as well and take some pics if you want. One change I would make is using the dual voice coil version of that sub instead of the single VC but that’s personal preference.

So are you running all your speakers and a sub through that amp you listed?

If you get a 5 channel amp then it should power everything to match. But you will definitely want all speakers to be powered by an amp. A 4 channel and a separate for the sub is fine. It appears you are following the advice from Jerry. Choose amps in the same power range as he as he advises and you'll be fine. Around 50 for the speakers and 200-ish for the sub if I remember. That's what I did and have no complaints. Get an amp that can run the sub at 1ohm . Just get the one reccomend for the sub and you'll be right.

I agree with Jerry. That amp is too small for that sub. Use the Kicker that he recommended. A solid 200w rms will be a good match for that 8. Are you going to power the front and rear speakers from the head unit? You may run out of headroom(power) on the head unit's internal amp esp with the nicely powered sub right next to you esp on the highway.

I already have the speakers and head unit installed, going to buy the sub soon. So I should be able to run all speakers within a 5 channel amp? And the small one that I listed, thats what amazon recommended me to use for the sub. So I was thinking of running one for the sub and one for the 4 speakers

Look at 8" slime line subs. They'll give you a bit more room to run them more efficiently. A 5 channel amp will run all of your speakers and the sub. Sound deaden the crap out that ammo can and you should be good.

This is the amp I'm running for the subwoofer,

Plenty of power and a small foot print to fit pretty much anywhere behind the dash. Run the other 4 speakers by the head unit, or you could get a separate 4 channel amp, or like mentioned earlier, a 5 channel amp to run the whole mess. 5 channel amps will be bigger, so finding a home for one could be challenging.

Do you have any good recommendations for a small 5 channel?

You typed that right as i was typing lol. I think the plan for me is to run a 4 channel amp and a single amp for the sub

Yes, a 5 channel is a good fit for this equipment. It cuts down on wiring vs two amps and space in a TJ is at a premium. About 50 w for the speakers and 200w for the sub will be just right in a jeep.

Yeah im definetly considering two amps due to the size of a 5 channel

Any one know of a good 4 channel amp to run my front and rear polks?

Whether or not a separate 4 channel amp and separate subwoofer amp or a 5-channel amp is the best choice has to do with how you listen to your music. For all but the most earth-shattering subwoofer needs. you can find a 5-channel amp with more than enough (LOTS of) power. Only if you really like loud thumping bass would you need a separate 4 ch amp and a separate subwoofer amp. Or just buy a powered subwoofer that has its on built-in amplifier which will be adequate for it.

I am currently trying to make my sound system clear and crisp with good high mids and lows. I am going to soon cover my bedliner with noico and bedrug. Ill probably slap an 8" sub in my center console with a small amp and see how I like it. If need be I can run another amp for the 4 speakers.

Either way will work fine. You can break up the cost over time if you decide to get 2 amps. Get an honest 200w rms for the sub and enjoy.
