Who's in for a wheelin outing to Wolf Caves near Mason, TX? Wolf Caves offers over 400 acres of unique granite landscape with everything ranging from Easy to Extreme. Four new trails have been labeled Impossible since they have never been completed apart from a winch.

The Eppler family opened the park in January 2015 so they are new to wheelin and have that new Jeep feel and air of excitement about the sport, still amazed at what Jeeps can do! They all own TJ's!

I am coming to Texas to do a weekend with my son, who lives in Austin. I am thinking of the Jeep Jamboree held at some ranch near Llano, but then I started looking at Wolfs Cave. I have a 2006 TJ with a 2" spacer lift, and 31" ATs. I understand from the Wolf's caves website that the first 2 levels of trails are ok for stock jeeps. I like the Jamborees as they usually have great trail guides, but they are expensive.
Any thoughts on Wolf's Cave vs the Jamboree?

Wow, at $325/driver, that is expensive. The Jamboree is at Inks Ranch. Looks like the Jamboree for this year was held in March, so that's an option for next year. It looks pretty fun but I'm not sure I could swing that price tag...

I have 2.5" Suspension LIft and a 1" Motor Mount Lift with 31's. At Wolf Caves you could do the Easy trails for sure and possibly some Moderate. You'd have to be careful though. Even the Main Road has some Moderate sections and most of the time, you're thinking, this is the Main Road? No trail guide, though I could ask Kurt Eppler if he could guide us for the first hour or so to get us into the park and comfortable with what we're going to be seeing. Love to have you and your son!

We could eat COOPERS BBQ in Llano!!!! :lol:
 
Hmmm Just recently did the river walk in San Antonio then went through Mason over to Buchanan lake, wish I'd known about Coopers.
Not much better than good BBQ.

Coopers is in Llano, TX. It's the next town over from Wolf Caves in Mason. Totally worth the short trip and should be added to the wheelin' adventure...
 
There is another Jamboree in Llano in Sep. It is not only 325 for the driver, it is the same price for each passenger. It does include 6 or 7 meals, but is still expensive.
JMT, the dates I was looking at were Oct 6-8. That's not on your list of suggested dates. I don't know how flexible you are.

Yeah, that week I'm in MN. :( Most other weeks I'm actually open. And Wolf Caves is open during the week by request.

Every time I go to MN I hear about the Iron Range. I won't have my Jeep, unfortunately, early Oct should be beautiful with the leaves changing. I'll keep Gilbert in mind for future trips. I usually go once a year. Thanks for the heads up!
 
For me, I would like to go once I get my new front axle put under my Jeep, and get my new 30" tires. So, at least for me, a slightly later date would be ideal!

@Brantley, chime in, I hope you can come out too.
