Is this gas mileage normal?

everyday to school is about 5-6 mi but i constantly go back and forth i’ve literally put around 1,200 mi in 2.5 weeks
Have you considered the possibility that a TJ isn’t the ideal car for this mission? Just askin’...

(What you need, my friend, is a second car!)

The hardships of owning a TJ lol PBR tonight has severely restricted my calculations from MPH to KPH but my TJ is worse than any V8 I have owned! This is why "older folk" keep them and younger folk sell them quick! :)
Its way far from a student daily driver unless your parents pay for gas :)

I have a pretty stock TJ, maybe a little heavy with the bumpers I have and 31" tires and 3.73's. But I usually get 240 miles a tank and refill around 1/4 ±1/8 tank. I also have the 19 gal tank. But I have not trimmed the filler tube to get the full 19 gal capacity. If you are in need of more range, that is the best thing that you can do. A good tune up and proper tire pressure could also get you back in 15-16 MPG territory. Short hops around town with a lot of starts from stand still will kill your MPG. I live in a decently rural area and get a good mix of city/highway on my commute to work. I am going to be lifting it soon, so I may take some data to see how the taller Jeep affects the MPG. I will be staying with the same tire size so it will be a fairly decent test.

I'm getting 14 mpg if I stay off the pedal. My 2008 Toyota Highlander was getting 16. And my wife's 2010 Honda Minivan gets 18. All in town driving.

It was easier when everyone was at home because I could drive to time the lights. Now I get people in front of me stopping and people behind me mad if I don't go faster.

If I wanted gas mileage, I'd drive the mini cooper to work. ~28 mpg and a 12 gallon tank.

You're putting on 1,500 miles every couple weeks? I put on 3,000 in a year and a half going back and forth to work. You'll need something that gets 40 mpg or better to save any money. I'm selling the mini, because better gas mileage doesn't cover the added taxes and insurance expenses. I doubt you'll save money with a second car in the long run. Especially if you borrow any money to buy it.

You guys are all hyper-milers!

Much better than me in my mostly stock LJ. Must be the extra length...

I get around 12-14mpg on 31” and 3.07 gears. There are a lot of hills where I live so that probably takes a toll on my mpg plus im pretty under-geared too

Mileage sounds right to me. The average fill-up in a Jeep after the light goes on is between 15-16 gallons if you have the 19 gallon tank. At 240 miles that's between 15 and 16 mpg. If you start getting below 160 miles a tank I'd be concerned about problems. At 240 I think all's well.

2005 LJ Rubicon Auto 4.88 32in tires.

I have been driving like I am in the Shell mileage contest since I started driving in 1972.

The best I have gotten is 18.2 on a 700 mile trip using Google map distance and recording gallons used.

When I drive the rpms rarely exceed 2k and never do I race off the line, and i cost to a stop.

From our house to town there is one stop sign on the two lane county road which I drive at 55 on the cruise control.

I get about 15mpg driving on the 40mile round trip.

Our W164 with a 5.0 V8 gets 20 on the same route.

My mileage is about the same on 32" tires and 3.73 gears. If you drive carefully I think that's normal. I've gotten over 20 but average 16.5.

My HEMI Ram gets better mileage than the 4 banger jeep. It's fun to drive, so I don't care.

We used to have an ‘08 MINI Cooper “S” with the John Cooper Works factory race prep. 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds. Standing 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds. They claimed it would go 150 mph. I only had it up yo about 132 mph before I chickened out, but it was still accelerating hard! We only sold it because something happened. We were offered too much money. ☺️
