What did you do to your TJ today?

I've had my LJ for about 2 months now. Yesterday my wife wanted to drive one of her girlfriends around in the Jeep so she took it for the first time. Somehow, she lost the one and only key. She called a locksmith and $150 later we had a new key. I told her to go ahead and get a second key which was another 50 bucks. I told her we needed a second key anyway and the price has to be cheaper than we would have gotten at the dealer.
What year is your Jeep? I paid 15 bucks for spare keys the day i got it. But mine is a '99 and may be simpler than yours.

Had an enjoyable day outside.

swapped out the incorrect (filed down to fit) emergency replaced rear drivers caliper with the original one I rebuilt several days ago. cleaned and greased contact points. pad wear and rotors look in good consistent shape (y)

Found the rear sway bushings are shot when the tire was out of the way 🤦‍♂️ I had just placed a rock auto mopar parts order a hour earlier and removed them from my cart because I had thought they were in good shape as I had replaced them about a year ago. Got back home and placed another parts order, OEM bushings are about $6 each.

Unlikely he got two SKIM keys for $200.
The Ilco chip keys that I bought were less than $10 each. Keys, programming, cutting and labor could easily be done for $200. If he was charged $200 for two regular keys, he was ripped off.

replaced my exterior mounted mirrors with stock, the whistling seemed to be getting worse so off they came. I've been resistent to this since I got my half doors, didn't want anything on them to disturb the look, but now that I see them on I like them, picked them up down the street for $40.

I replaced the original exhaust. I found out how useless the auto parts counter help really is. Two different parts stores told me that the muffler studs are 3/8-16. I told them that they were metric. I finally looked it up they are M10x1.5. I went to my local hardware store and picked up 2 stainless flanged ones for $1.25. They wanted $3.99 at the box part store.

TTs still make a lot of noise even ensuring I’m running conventional. Not sure if they just make noise or what. Also need a new differential cover I think as the lift angles the carrier where I can’t keep it properly filled. I’m short about 1/4 quart.

Another joy ride- spent way too much time on a project at home this beautiful weekend-

first pic is a Knucklebender, last resort for adjusting a house door by moving the hinge barrels.

Next is the good stuff- made a loop from home , through Huntsville, to Scottsboro and then to Guntersville via of Langston and the State Park.

I love a jeep for touring.

disassembled, cleaned and lubed the front calipers. gave in with 1 rear caliper to go. 88F out in the sun and lower back pain came on suddenly with a bit of toe sciatica.

appears that I will be getting the welder out soon to attempt my luck at the brake pad wear on the knuckles. I think I have about a year on the replacement knuckles and they are already notched slightly. seems like there should have been some other method of pad design rather than allowing them to carve a home into the knuckle themselves.
