A/C Shoots Out Material

Hello all,

I used my A/C system today on my 1997 TJ and this odd material shot out of it all over me. It seems to be this dry, net/mesh like material that crumbles when you touch it. I searched online but I’ve been reading conflicting advice. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

The factory evaporator (at lease my factory evaporator) had a plastic mesh that clips to the front, presumably to catch debris before they blow through the fins. That material looks just like it. I tossed mine when I changed my evaporator.

X2 or you have some stale Chex-mix in the vents.

A similar issue occurred shortly after purchasing the '01 Sport; I removed the two center louvers, the drivers and passengers louver along with the upper defroster grill and cleaned out the decomposing plastic mesh from the ventilation ducts.
The cleaning out of the ducting was required a couple times; the decomposing plastic mesh had not returned and that was more than a year ago.

It’s there to allow condensation to build up on it and drip down, to then flow out the drain. Unfortunately after many years it degrades, as you’ve recently found out…
