How far are you getting on a full tank?

3" lift and 33" Terra Grappler G2s. Calculated range 266 miles, practical range closer to 210. My wife likes to refill when there's 1/4 tank left. I like texting her pictures of the needle on the E.

My Jeep was once owned by Jon Voight which is probably why I average 13-14 city/highway combined with 4.0/NV3550, 4:56's, 33's, and 2 inch SL + 2 inch BL.

Of course I am just yankin your chain a little Jerry !;)

But help me understand how a 42RLE with a 69:1 O.D. with 5.38 axles, = 3.71 final ratio,
is so much better, ( 3 m.p.g.) over a 32RH with NO O.D. and 3.73 axles ? = 3.73 final ratio. all other things equal.
It would seem if anything the drive line losses would lose efficiency, (and mileage ).
After all the driveshafts are spinning 44% faster +/- .

It totally sucks that some POS stole your first TJ !

I think his +3mpg claim is with the 42RLE, before and after regearing. So he's talking about a 42RLE with 3.73 or 4.1 gears, vs a 42RLE with 5.38 gears. Not that he got +3 between a 3.73 32RH and a 5.38 42RLE.

I get 14+ mpg city driving. That means about 260 per tank, however I've never let it go beyond about 220. The Muddog has a 4.0, 5 speed, 31X 10.50s with 3.73 diffs. Speedo is accurate.
Interestingly enough, I get 12 mpg highway. 4th gear, 5th gear, 60, 65, 70, 75, all the same. I'm still waiting on someone to figure THAT out for me. That's why I don't roadtrip it any more.

First, my previous 97 TJ I had installed an automatic with no overdrive into was stolen. The local used TJ I bought had the required automatic but it was an 04 so it had the .69 overdrive. I compensated for its overdrive with 5.38 gears which did that nicely. That's what boosted its mpg by nearly 3 mpg.
So, you do not have the same specs on the new TJ that you had on your stolen TJ? That’s no bueno.

I am not sure what mpg road/asphalt is. I do know I went from ft Mojave to oatman and back and got 10.2mpg (using gps mileage and a top off before and after). Trip was mostly fire roads and sand washes. A few miles of asphalt.

32RH 3sp, 35” BFG MT’s, 4.56:1, Atlas II. Did not use low.

Stock as a block: 310 miles on the highway with the hardtop and the cruise set at 71, which translates to 68 in GPS speed.

I've been getting about 14.5 overall, stock tires, 3.73, 6 speed. Filled up yesterday at 216.2 miles - about 15 miles past the yellow lite coming on.

How far can you go... forgetting the odometer at fill up, and then add in 4 Low, airdown, head winds, make life intresting. The thought of walking out 40 miles.. may become a funny memory someday, but just having the extra 5 gals just sitting there is great insurance. Much like having a winch, you seldom use it, and it's mostly used to get someone out of a terrible spot. Our 5 gal treasure is very welcome when we help some poor sole out of gas.. Anyway our take on the Brick on 4 Wheels milage..

"Luck favors the prepared"

Kali outlawed the old style cans. I bought a pair of 3gl rotopax and griped about it until I got used to them. Know I run a 2gl gas and water when doing local short trails and the two 3gl for longer runs.

Fuck Kali and their Nanny State laws! I had, and kept using, "old style" cans until the day I finally got the hell out!

Apparently, in the San Bernardino NF, rangers where actively looking for and citing folks with non-compliant cans about 4yrs ago. How is that for nanny state. "If you see something, say something" has a whole different meaning here in kali.
