    Rubbish parts - thermostat housing

Sad we can't trust new parts right out of the box at times. When I had to replace my thermostat housing I went with Gates and a FelPro gasket and didn't have any leaks. I learned from this forum to check thermostat housings with a straight edge before installing and my Gates was spot on.

    Rattle noise on cold starts

I'm wasn't able to hear your video but from your explanation it could be "cold carbon knock"? Read up on that!

    Mopar Radiator Cracked Plastic

I needed a replacement ASAP so I purchased a Murray radiator from local auto parts store. Jeep dealership wanted around $575 for new Mopar radiator. Murray radiator looks and cools like the original so far though it's only been a year.

    Mopar Radiator Cracked Plastic

I got 22 years along with 71000 miles out of my factory Mopar radiator. Mine cracked in the exact same spot on my 2001 Sport last year.

    Weird sound while warming up

Sounds like it could be a bad belt driven pulley bearing?

    Gates idler pulley?

Just an update...I was able to use the Gates idler pulley on my 2001 Wrangler Sport from RockAuto along with belt tensioner and serpentine belt. Like Red02tj I had to re-use the original spacer mount and bolt also had to not use bushing in kit (like Ron Hall) and delete dust cover over bearing...

    Gates idler pulley?

I'll see what I'm up against when the parts arrive. There is a O'Reilly within walking distance from the work-shed so if I can't McGyver something together I'll take a walk. Ha!

    Gates idler pulley?

Williambmac those issues you mentioned sounds like what I was reading but maybe I got the brands mixed up as to which didn't fit directly.

    Gates idler pulley?

Thanks for the feedback...Chili_pepper maybe I did misread some information from some older posts? Ron Hall above said to toss the bushing in the kit and just bolt the pulley...maybe that is what confused me? If it all fits then I guess the only hurdle will be the T-40 torx screw. Ha!

    Gates idler pulley?

Placed an order with RockAuto for a belt-tensioner w/pulley, idler pulley and a new serpentine belt all made by Gates for my 2001 Sport Wrangler. Now I'm reading there may be a problem with the idler pulley fitting correctly because of redesign? My bad...should have done more research before...

    Rubber Intake Vacuum Line Elbow

My 2001 Sport gave an evap code and traced it down to a rubber elbow coming from the canister. Took it off and gave it several complete wraps of duct-tape some years back and all good...worked and cheap!

Very low idle and running temp

When I replaced mine I wasn't in a hurry so I placed 2 small drops of super glue east and west on outer rim of thermostat and placed on block to set. I read where they like to fall out of place when bolting housing to block and wanted to avoid that. Worked like a charm!

Best song to listen to in a TJ?

Having bought my Jeep new in Phoenix Arizona and long before that being bit by gold fever I had two songs. The first leg of the journey Gordon Lightfoot song Carefree Highway and shortly followed by America...Horse with no Name once in the goldfields!

Any reason to spend extra for Mopar thermostat housing and radiator hose?

Just recently replaced my thermostat housing with a Gates from RockAuto on my 4.0L and it was straight.
