    Frame Thoughts

I saw that one on FB. Looks like a good deal. What I did before traveling for mine, was ask the seller over the phone to stick his fingers in the frame holes to feel the bottom. If he says it's smooth, then it's definitely in good shape. Definitely check for yourself once you get there though.

Good call. That's another area to keep an eye on

Mine has the same. What looks like surface by the front bumper. And definitely no plans for a wire wheel. This thing looks great with the factory paint exposed.

It's actually really easy once you get in the flow. Just soak it with something and then go at it with a putty knife, it come right off. I'm using the thicker, less aggressive 5 in 1 tool version

While I didn't notice any of the stuff anywhere else under the Jeep, the way it flakes off does make it seem like it could be a coating. Either way, I'm happy to get it all off and start fresh. Still not sure what I'll put on it, but for now, it won't see rain or snow until next winter (if ever)...

Thanks everyone. I know the frame isn't screwed, I just want to take care of it. In other news, I learned the VIN numbers were stamped into the frame.

I do not. That's what it would have come with stock though, along with khaki flares and interior. I found the khaki hardtop after I bought it, and just garage it with no top or doors in the warmer months. If I found a nice khaki lj soft top, I would probably grab it though.

Thanks guys. I'm going to go ahead with the same method, but maybe replace the engine degreaser for simple green. Just something to loosen it up before attacking with the metal scraper. Once done, I'll look into rust proofing. I've seen so many shit frames, especially up here in the northeast...

I assumed that was just years of built up grease with dust/dirt/sand stuck to it. I know it was a beach vehicle for a bit. You could be right though. Here are a couple more pictures.

LJ owners: Who wants a spice soft top?

I know mine came with a dark khaki top originally and I'd love to have a nice one. Currently don't even have a frame for one, but that would be easier to get a hold of.

Pretty much what the title says. Bought this LJ from the south last summer with some caked on dirt and sand, and never addressed it. Decided to see what I could do today. Sprayed some engine degreaser on, waited a minute, and tried to wipe off. Didn't really do much, so I tried to attack the...

Jeep Green LJ 6-speed. Help a newbie turn this mall-built Jeep into an off roader.

Agreed. Its all good problems though. I was laid off, and found a great opportunity in a new location. A location that costs a lot more money for a decent home, and where having 3 stupid vehicles, instead of one actually useful one would be a bit silly. Ill try to make it work, but its a total...

It is. Life is getting a bit wacky though, and I'm hoping I'm able to hang on to it. No updates at the moment really.

Savvy engine skid install, with Fumoto oil pan valve (mated to OEM transfer case skid)

Which Jeeps require modification to the Savvy engine skid? The 97-02 or the 03-06? I'm between the Savvy and the UCF for my engine skid. Would like aluminum, but do not want to tuck yet. I have an 06 with a manual, body lift, and MML.
