This guy used plywood but same idea, it mounts to the extruded aluminum piece on the steering column. Amp will be mounted pointed down towards the floor

I cut a piece of aluminum the same dimensions of the amp and bolted it to the aluminum part of the column, my Jeep is a 05. Then mounted the amp to it. The sub fits great, at maximum excursion the surround hits the factory grill so if you may want to remove that if they are unhappy with that...

If you find an original console sub enclosure, you can dynamat the inside and use a 6 3/4” kicker sub. Sounds pretty good for what it is. I have my jl 5 channel amp mounted on the steering column. No lost space and everything is out of sight
