I bought a 1974 CJ-5 the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend of 1974. It was a trade-in at the local Chevrolet Dealer. Some old guy had bought it new the fall of 1973, And did not go thru another winter in the clothe top, So he traded it in on a new Pickup. The first thing I did was drive to my best buddy's family farm and hit the creek.I stopped and it sunk and stuck. I walked back to the barnyard and got him to pull me out with a tractor and when it was out I hit the same spot going the opposite direction and stuck it again
I never hit that same hole again.....I can't really remember what I paid for it, but I think the payments were $83 a month for 3 years.
Then followed almost 3 years of great fun, however it all stopped when I lost my job, and could not make the payment.
Now I have found this Jeep in my golden??? years and want to hit it again.
I guess I should say that my buddy is a year younger and has had Jeeps since before he was legal to drive (I was his designated driver occasionally, like most weekends). He started with2 Station Wagons, one at a time. Then went to CJ-5's. He now has 2 1947 CJ-5, and a 1950's one. I don't think he has ever been without a Jeep. He sold one of his newer ones to his daughter, and it is still in her garage, I believe it was a 1980's model.
He has TJ same year as mine right now that he is getting finished up on fixing body and frame rust in the usual places, rebuilding the front and rear suspension and building a small body and spring lift.
So, although I have not owned one for 45 years, I have always been around them.....
