Savvy off-road sold? (the unofficial Savvy customer support and Savvy rant thread)

I’m super happy to have got my mid-arm last year. Combined with the Fox 2.0’s from @pcoplin my LJ is the most comfortable riding solid axle vehicle in the stable. It’s notably better than my JLU on 2.5” kings and better than my 392 on 2.5” Foxes before it was stolen.

    Mid-arm LJ Rubicon

Yes it is! My wife and I took turns floating a few last weekend. I need to go back and re-read how you achieved your wheelbase stretch a few more times to attempt to truly understand the process! I love the way it turned out while keeping the mid-arm. Is your fuel cell up behind the rear...

    Who needs tow ratings anyway?

I’m not sure if the picture is doctored or legitimate. Even with a heavy load load like that if you position it far enough back on the trailer you can get to a near zero tongue weight, which is good for your TJ’s suspension and really bad for your TJ staying on four wheels. I agree it’s pure...

    Who needs tow ratings anyway?

That travel trailer whipped that TJ around like it wasn't there. I prefer to keep mine on the trailer instead of in front of it.

    Who needs tow ratings anyway?

My F-250 is 10,000lb GVWR and my 36ft two Jeep gooseneck GVWR is 15,990lbs. With our JL and LJ I’m safely under 26,000lbs but when towing two JL’s I’m within a gnat’s ass of being overweight and needing a class A license. This guy needs a AA license with a Jesus endorsement to stay safe with...

    Who needs tow ratings anyway?

They said I should buy a pickup but I’ve already got my TJ! My LJ on 35s and stock brakes was terrifying to stop from speed before I installed a Vanco big brake kit. I cannot image what stoping that load would be like.

Please Help Me Diagnose Gear Noise & Vibration Over 30MPH

I took it back to the shop that did the re-gear and they replaced the gears and bearings under warranty. The rear diff is silent now.

    Another Tracer build

Pretty shocking to hear the belly pan wasn’t up for duty. Were there any other issues with the Tracer Kit? I looked at it briefly until I added up the true cost of everything and the chickened out. I went Savvy mid-arm + fox 2.0 outboarded and I’m happy with the results but part of me always...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I outboarded my front and rear shocks over the past two (very long) weekends with Fox 2.0 11" and 12" shocks from @pcoplin. The project ended up being more work than I had anticipated, even though I knew it would be a lot of work. I'm happy with how the rears turned out. I'm sitting right at...

Please Help Me Diagnose Gear Noise & Vibration Over 30MPH

The shop replaced the rear gears and pinion bearing under warranty. I got the Jeep back yesterday and the howling is gone! I celebrated by installing some Motobilt rocker tubes this morning. Thanks for the help, everyone!

Please Help Me Diagnose Gear Noise & Vibration Over 30MPH

I’m not sure what type oil the shop put in the diffs. They replaced the oil after the break in inspection and I haven’t touched the rear diff since. I’ve had the front diff cover off since the inspection and refilled with valvoline fulll synthetic. No issues with it so far, but it’s also...

Please Help Me Diagnose Gear Noise & Vibration Over 30MPH

Thank you! I didn’t want to take it back to the shop for something I could adjust out at home. That threshold has been passed. I’ll call them tomorrow.

Please Help Me Diagnose Gear Noise & Vibration Over 30MPH

I have done some additional testing and now believe the noise and vibration are coming from the rear differential. The sound becomes audible around 20MPH and hits the resonance frequency of the tub between 30-40MPH. Over 60MPH, the gear noise sounds like 737 engines on take-off. The gears...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I installed a full layer of Noico 80mil over the weekend and started on the second layer of 157mil foam. The foam layer goes on much faster than the buytl/foil layer. My LJR was an Arizona softtop for most it’s life and the inside was packed with dust pretty severly. I’ve ordered a bedrug...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Replaced the plugs. The Jeep only has 31,000mi on the odometer. These are probably 2005 factory originals. They measured near 0.070” gap. Going to flush the transfer case, transmission, and coolant next.
