Thank you for posting up the solution to your problem. I haven't done much to my LJ yet, (fixing as needed), but didn't know that you needed to solder a plug wire. That seems really strange. Was it an injector wire perhaps?🤔

Bypassed my heater core today. Easy work, and no issues. I did get to thinking though...I smelt anti-freeze when I first turned the heat on after the engine got to temperature. This lasts for about 5-10 seconds or so, and then the smell goes away, (after windows are opened of course). No leaks...

^^ I would try to see if you can figure out which side of the vehicle is making the noise from, and try to isolate it better if possible. Could be a wheel bearing issue also.^^ On another note, I have done this method as well, by using the bars described in the OP post with good success. Great...

From what I have recently read and seen pictures of on this forum, depending on the heater core, the little splines called turbulators in the heater core can get pushed/pulled around the system, and lodge themselves into the thermostat. Sometimes this holds the stat open, and might not be...

Looking to temporarily bypass the heater core. I know the hoses are 5/8" and 11/16". All of the bypass systems I see are for 5/8" and 3/4". Is this what everyone is using, and just making it fit?

I hope you have better luck at the dealership than I had. Last time I went to my local dealership, they told me they don't service anything under a 2010, as parts are discontinued. Couldn't get a heater core. Aftermarket is the way I had to go. I put in a radiator a couple of years back...
