My 99 pops out of gear sometimes. Time to rebuild?

I mean it's not like a broken frame I suppose. You just don't want to lose 1st or 2nd when your flooring it outta WalMart or on the on ramp

My 99 pops out of gear sometimes. Time to rebuild?

It's safe until you pull into traffic and lose your gear.

My 99 pops out of gear sometimes. Time to rebuild?

If you have an AX-15 it's pretty okay. The NV boxes are hard to get parts for as NV is out of business

To lift or not to lift?

As others have said, a 2 or 2.5" isn't that bad. This would be shocks, springs, adj track bar, SYE if you're cool/TC drop if you're lazy like me. Some get vibes, others don't after a lift. YMMV. If you just wanna run 31's you can do a 1" body lift. Just don't cheap out. It'll drive...

    Power Steering Leak

You can put dye in it. It helps a lot. O'Reilly's carries it as well as most auto part stores.

My 99 pops out of gear sometimes. Time to rebuild?

Well, first off, check your fluid. Pop the fill plug and stick your finger in it a little. If you feel fluid, you're pretty good. A transfer case drop is done to correct the pinion angle between the output of the transfer case to the pinion on the rear axle after a lift (sometimes on a 2 or 2.5...

    Bad alternator?

New batteries don't mean much. You'd be surprised how long batteries sit in containers before they actually hit the store shelves.

My 99 pops out of gear sometimes. Time to rebuild?

A lot of grinds can be fixed or made significantly better with Redline fluid. Pop-outs on the other hand... It is possible, just shooting the shit here because it has happened to me, that a transfer case drop (even just an inch) can cause 2nd, 4th, and possibly reverse to pop out of gear. When...

Trying to get this Jeep running after sitting for 14 years

I don't know if this applies to non-V8 engines, but is it 180 degrees out on timing (assuming you mean distributor timing)? When I used to set timing on old GM V8's if the timing was set 180 out, it would backfire bad when given gas.

What amount of miles is too high?

I'm skimming the thread, and don't know what year this TJ is. However, the later model TJ's use ATF in place of typical power steering fluid. If the line runs into the power steering pump, it's a power steering line.

    97 TJ Sahara rust spots

225k. Scares many buyers off, especially when it's 10k. At that mileage and price, your buyer audience is gonna be fine tuned TJ enthusiasts. Great looking Jeep and I'm sure it drives great, but most people shit themselves over odometer readings.

    97 TJ Sahara rust spots

Keep looking. Don't settle for rust. You can fix or replace anything but rust fairly easily. Rust, unless done correctly (so expensive and time consuming), is extremely difficult to stop. Where the torque boxes are rotted, leads me to believe there's rot elsewhere. Just save yourself the...

    97 TJ Sahara rust spots

I live in Ohio, and there are plenty of rust free TJ's for 9k or less. Being in NC, you can spend a bit less and have a virtually rust free rig.

99 4.0l engine swape in 06 jeep with bad 4.0l engine

Power steering fittings may be different. The frames from 97-02 are different from 03-06. With that frame difference came a different steering gearbox. The tiny itty bitty block changes on the 4.0 over the years, ESPECIALLY in 2005, I'd honestly just find a motor from an 05 or 06 and not dick...
