Modifications and advice for extreme cold

And we have t-shirt weather coming this weekend! Any time it's 60 degrees warmer, it's t-shirt weather:cool: I'm not sure what the noise is. Mine makes some interesting sounds at -40, too. I don't usually hear them, though, under all my layers to stay warm. Does it change with speed or RPMs...

Is a weight distribution hitch needed in this scenario?

Reese, Fastway, Equil-i-zer, Camco, etc. all work on the same principle. Round bar and chain WDHs worked well for me up and down the Alaska highway many times without any issues. Buy whichever WDH that works best for your vehicle-trailer combination and is rated for your tow.

    Coolest Colors on a TJ

There are a lot of Jeeps in Fairbanks, AK. My Bright Jade Satin Glow is so unique that it‘s a head-turner! Not a good car-color combination if you want to remain anonymous. Wouldn’t want to rob a bank with this as your get-away car. Not that I’m planning anything, just making an observation...

    TJ 2.5 engine replacement

Thanks! I’ve heard good things from S&J. Shipping cost is the price I pay for living in Alaska. You’re only 90 minutes from S&J on a good day, so you had free shipping If you didn’t get a ticket for going over 100mph on i90😉 People can say what they want about the good ol’ days, I drove i90...

Modifications and advice for extreme cold

What is this double windshield of which you speak? The winter air is so dry in Fairbanks that my daughter will hang her wool sweaters outside to dry. Even Blizzaks will freeze and have the flat spot to the ground at -40c but those are still the best winter tires for Fairbanks. (Don’t worry, the...

    TJ 2.5 engine replacement

My son bought a 2000 TJ that needs the motor replaced. Our local options are NAPA or direct from S&J. Is S&J worth to extra $$$?

Modifications and advice for extreme cold

Everything suffers at -40. Find out from ARB the grade of the lines they use. Anything high pressure is prone to fail if less than arctic grade rubber.

Is a weight distribution hitch needed in this scenario?

I prefer using a weight distributing hitch because it increases the load onto the front end and improves steering. Won't notice much on the freeway but why go 55 on a 2-way? I also tend to load up a day trip as if it was an overland expedition:-)

Selling a Jeep, whats it worth?

Selling a Jeep, whats it worth?

Most people don't know the differences between any of the Wranglers. "Is it a 2 door or 4 door Jeep?" Market it as a custom build with nothing else like it on or off the road. Start high, like $25k or more. If no bites, pull ad and start over with a new ad and pictures. With this past year in...

    Which TJ owner are you?

There are only 2 types of TJ owners. There are those who love the versatility and utility of a TJ and modify it for those needs, whether it is modified a little or a lot . Then, there are those who want to cruise the boulevard in the flavor of the month. Of course, everyone here is in the former...

    What's everyone's gas mileage?

So, Aussie gas IS better than Alaska gas! BTW- I use my sunscreen so infrequently, it's expired. :)

Bought my first TJ today—what’s next?

Looking at your tires from the photo, you have 305/65 R17 which is equal to 32.6x12 R17. They are 1/2 inch from being the 33x12.5s that are popular and look good. You probably have a body lift and a suspension lift, otherwise, the tires would rub. Check for longer coils or fat “hockey pucks” on...

    I Hate Yard Work

I don’t have a lawn, it’s more like cultivated moose habitat.

    I Hate Yard Work

I was cruel to my 6 little millennials by having goats and ducks. They had chores but wouldn’t do anything for $$. The goats were better at keeping the grass mowed, too!
