    A couple NP231 questions

I still have the long protruding output shaft, and it was a stock driveshaft, so no SYE unless I'm just massively missing something. Basically I have this picture; First pic at this link; https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transfer-cases/np231.html

    A couple NP231 questions

I've had an NP231J in the garage because it had a bad front output shaft bearing. I tore this thing down probably 2.5 years ago and now I've forgotten some things. Can you all help check my memory/assumptions below? This is an NP231J that came out of an 2004 TJ 4.0 w/ automatic 42RLE. 1)...

    Rear End Creaking

Read the labels when you buy it. In my head most (if not all?) of the full synthetics have the modifier in it already. The label will state one way or the other.

    Rear End Creaking

Mine was friction modifier for sure. It was hard to measure but I put roughly 4-5 oz in. Good luck!

    3.8 Exhaust Manifold Crack

Yeah, don't get me started. Jeep's shouldn't have 4 doors but I also have three kids and a wife that want to take rides together. 🤷 And since you cannot legally (or safely!!) go 3 wide in the back of a TJ I figured it was time. The TJ is soooooo much easier to work on. I found a Rubicon for a...

    3.8 Exhaust Manifold Crack

Last time I checked I don't think cracks were a design future of exhaust manifolds. 🤣 I have the cats removed for replacement and I thought I had an exhaust leak, so that's how I got here. Two questions then; 1) would any of you all try to weld repair this or do I just need to buy a new one...

    Any A/C gurus out there?

Fwiw I've got 63 ambient and 48 at the vent. Oh, nevermind!!!! Just went and drove it hard. Came home, it took the rest. Compressor stays on. The FSM doesn't recommend pressures at 60F but I'm at 30 low and 150 high which jives. Oh, and now it's 39 at the vent. 🥶🥶🥶☃️⛄❄️🌨️

    Any A/C gurus out there?

I never knew air conditioning would be my most popular post. 🤣 Status update. I went ahead and swapped in a new accumulator. I pulled 30 in of vacuum and it held for 72 hours while I was on a work trip. Now it takes refrigerant but the compressor keeps shutting off before it will take in all 20...

    Any A/C gurus out there?

Quick update. Traded the pump at AutoZone for a newer one after I noticed some small oil leaks on the sight glass. New one immediately started pulling down 30" (or 29.9 if you want to be super pedantic). Currently running it for about an hour then going to let this sit for 24 hrs to make sure...

    Any A/C gurus out there?

Thank you for pointing this out. I'm learning something new about A/C systems. Kind of sucks that the tube isn't a serviceable item. Do I have reason to think this part is clogged if no internals on my compressor/condensor/evap have gone bad? Or can the moisture that got in the system cause...

    Any A/C gurus out there?

TIL!! Thank you! Those are really not that expensive, seems like an easy proactive maintenance item. Just for clarity, when you say "that orifice tube" you are referring to?

    Any A/C gurus out there?

That's a good train of thought there. I might throw the pump on another hour later tonight to see if it can boil off any more water.

    Any A/C gurus out there?

Noted and thank you. I think that's where my head was out. Also, my UV dye is also PAG oil so it will, by default, get a little extra oil.

    Any A/C gurus out there?

First off, yes, I know I should replace the dryer. So in the question below I know the answer is "replace the dryer" but also answering the question I'm actually asking will be much more helpful. When I got my TJ the A/C Schrader valves were bad so the system was down/out on refrigerant. I...
