#3 Misfire and Variable Cylinder Compression

Success! I drove over 100 miles and the check engine light did not come on. I was able to get it registered yesterday. I'm happy to have that done but I'm still going to try and rotate at least valves 3 and 4 and do the process again. I'm still getting quite a bit of exhaust popping when I...

#3 Misfire and Variable Cylinder Compression

I was thinking along those lines as well. I may put some effort into figuring out how to rotate #3 and #4 in situ.

#3 Misfire and Variable Cylinder Compression

Update: I drove it pretty hard (holding 4500 RPMs for up to 30 seconds 5-6 times) and then I ran Berryman Intake Valve and Combustion Chamber Cleaner through it and let it heat soak for two hours. Then I repeated the hard driving cycle. It seemed to help. Here are the results. Compression #1...

#3 Misfire and Variable Cylinder Compression

A check engine light showed up just as I needed to register this year. The code showed #3 misfire. I pulled the spark plugs. #3 had some carbon but nothing dramatic. If anything, it showed less wear than the other five. I was shocked at the wear on my Autolite XP985 Iridium plugs in less than...

Many Thanks to Mike and the BFH Garage @HoseJockey61

My niece bought a 2000 TJ that has been nothing but work so far. Many interesting threads would be possible based on the PO's poor choices. She's committed to her TJ and off-roading though. This holiday my brother and I tackled the rear ring and pinion on its Dana 44. I was surprised to find...

    It's about time

FWIW, I have used the grease technique on a CJ-5. It did work but it made an awful mess. It really helped to get a punch the was almost the same size as the opening. Lately, pilot bearings haven't been as much of a problem. Slide hammer with the jaws has worked.

    Just got this ARB deflator

I've owned mine for years and it has worked well. I've never lost a valve stem--that's a real plus (even though you should have a few stashed in the jeep somewhere). I've stayed with it because I air down to different amounts for different conditions. Sand? High speed desert? Slickrock? Snow...

Help with part distortion after welding

That's not going to be ideal. I'd put more effort into the remaining pre-welding preparation. 3/16" has already demonstrated to you that it can be bent over a distance. If you get a pretty good size tube (e.g., 2"x4"x1/4") and use the 4" side to resist the deflection, I think you can do it...

Help with part distortion after welding

I think you're onto a good idea here. I've done a lot of metalwork and welding. When there was a weld that had the chance to twist or mis-shape the product, we often used c-clamps, stronger tubes, hydraulic jacks and other leverage to pre-bend the metal in the opposite direction. When welded...

Best shocks for a smooth ride?

Have the same. Yes it is.

Do you drain your compressor after every use?

Depends on the time of year. Winter is very dry and the compressor just doesn't condense much water. The more humid seasons require more draining. Then I usually do it every day.

Is it possible to remove grill but leave radiator so A/C lines don't have to be cracked open?

I had my front clip off with the radiator out without taking out the A/C condenser. It wasn't difficult. I "hung" the A/C condenser from a pole that reached from one side to the other. I had to learn what a "well nut" was. You'll want to replace them too when you separate the condenser from the...

What would it cost to replace the main wiring harness on a 2005 Rubicon?

I had to replace mine in 2012. Jeep will not sell you one. I waited in queue for months before they fessed up. That was irritating because my TJR was only 8 years old at that point. Not much support there. I sourced a used harness from Daveys Jeeps for I think $500. Anyway, you'll be doing...

Accutune Can't Tune Fox Shocks For The TJ

This is really helpful and interesting. I'm planning an outboard and had thought Accutune might be a good shock vendor. Based on what you've experienced, not so much. Thanks.

    Inner axle seal

Order of operations: I would install the diff cover after getting the axle installed. You're flying blind now when you don't need to. You may need to pull the diff cover off again to see what is happening. Were you extremely careful to re-install the bearing cap and bolts in the same locations...
