    4.0, 42RLE, NP241OR High Speed Vibrations After Re-Gear to 4.88 or Deeper

I don’t think that would show you anything because there isn’t a load on the transfer case in the form of a long, angled driveshaft with a double cardan joint on it. The double cardan is going to transfer any play in the transfer case down through the driveline. I’m having trouble finding the...

    4.0, 42RLE, NP241OR High Speed Vibrations After Re-Gear to 4.88 or Deeper

It’s the front output shaft inner bearing if I recall correctly. The outer bearing (closest to the yoke) is a ball type bearing. The inner bearing is pressed into the back side of the t case housing and it’s a needle style. My output shaft had vertical play like it was see-sawing using the outer...

    4.0, 42RLE, NP241OR High Speed Vibrations After Re-Gear to 4.88 or Deeper

I just noticed this and figured I’d mention I ran into the same issue when I rebuilt my np231. Had to do quite a bit of searching to find rpm ratings for the bearings that came in the rebuild kit. Even with a bearing rated for double the rpm range, it didn’t completely solve my driveline vibes...

    Re-geared, now I have a vibration above 50 mph

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this. It does make sense that raising the t case will reduce your front cv angle since the fulcrum is on the engine mounts. I’m thinking it would be pretty easy to do a quick experiment to see if I get any significant change in vibes by bringing the t case...

    Re-geared, now I have a vibration above 50 mph

I posted in this thread a few months ago and I’m still having vibes above 65. To recap, I’ve replaced everything in the driveline (d-shafts, yokes, bearings, chain, trans mount) except the front output shaft and the engine mounts, which will probably get done this spring. The vibe is completely...

Whelp, took it for a spin with only the front ds in and it's still vibing. It's a little less pronounced, but still there.

    Re-geared, now I have a vibration above 50 mph

This all started for me a while ago when I heard a loud bang on the highway. Found a nice dent in the floorboard, took a while to figure out that one of the weights on the factory ds flew off. Soon after the bang, but before finding the cause, I had a leaky front pinion. Found the spot where the...

    Re-geared, now I have a vibration above 50 mph

When this vibe first showed up it was around 45 and got much worse with speeds above that. As I've replaced stuff it's seemed to move up incrementally. I haven't pulled the rear shaft, but now that you mention it I'll try that tonight.

    Re-geared, now I have a vibration above 50 mph

New to the forum, signed up just for this thread. I don't have a solution unfortunately, but my situation is uncannily similar. '03 TJ, Regeared to 4:56, brand new Tom woods front driveshaft, replaced axle shaft u joints, pinion yoke, ball joints, rebuilt t-case with new chain, new...
