What do you think about 37" tires with my setup

I see your points. I'll test fit the stock 32" inch tires from my rubicon and go from there. Need to wait about a week till the front axle is in place. I don't want to jack up the rear right now. Thank you all for the input.

What do you think about 37" tires with my setup

Hate to say this, but I am now considering the look of it mostly. Only because of resale. My plan was to run 33" tires. And I have a lot of wiggle room for haggling on price if someone is really unhappy with the D 30. So far I have about 6k out of pocket in it and all major components except...

What do you think about 37" tires with my setup

I've been working on my current project for about 8 months now. It's a 1998 TJ with a 5.9L magnum and a 46RE trany from a 2003 Durango RT. I have a Ford 8.8 and a high pinion D-30, with 5.13 gears. The rear axle is in and here's a picture of the space I have to work with, that's a 235 75 15 tire...

1998 TJ, 5.9L, 46RE swap and complete rebuid

I was able to sell another project and got some cash to continue this one. Just bought a set of 5.13 gears and a trac lock rebuild kit. I'm getting a set of used rubicon wheels and tires for $100. I'll run the 32" tires for now. They're dirt cheap and can easily be replaced later. Should be a...

1998 TJ, 5.9L, 46RE swap and complete rebuid

Man, I got nothing for you. I am not an expert in anything I do. When ever I run into a problem, I have to figure it out to move forward. I would suggest you try "hotrodders.com" That's has been my go to site for a very long time. My thoughts are that the speedo not working is related to the...

1998 TJ, 5.9L, 46RE swap and complete rebuid

Engine, trany and transfer case are now in. I was going to do the R&P next, but I'm running low on funds. Think I need about 1K to rebuild both axles. I'll likely go with 5.13 gears and 35" tires. I got a 231 from a 1999 XJ with an auto trany and that bolted to the 46RE. I put the advanced...

    TJ's TJ

My old plate is a bit rusted, but usable. I've not tried to test fit it yet. I'm putting in a 5.9 magnum and 46re trany from an '03 durango RT and the trany mounts on the RT and TJ plate line up just fine. I did not think about the old plate not working with the newer frame. Do you think I can...

    TJ's TJ

I have a question for you, in reference to your post # 16 where you mention relocating skid plate/ trany mount bolts. Does that mean the bolt locations are different on an '06 frame? I'm doing the same year frame swap on a '98 TJ. I thought the only difference was the steering box mounting...

    TJ's TJ

Have you considered a Ford 8.8 rear axle from an Explorer. They come in 3.73 gears, have 31 spline, a limited slip and disk brakes. Looks like you can weld, so the swap should be about $500 for everything. I like your work. Edit: I just realized you have already done a lot of work to the...

98 TJ spewed oil under hood, WTF?

I think now, I would de-grease and pressure wash the engine and keep a close eye on it. Try and catch a leak as soon as it appears, that 'll narrow it down.

1998 TJ, 5.9L, 46RE swap and complete rebuid

Honestly, just buy a welder and start welding. It's so much fun, I love it. Do a lot of practice before doing anything structural. It's easier than you think. Just like doing a ring and pinion swap, that also seems like something that's way too complicated, till you try it and then it's easy.

1998 TJ, 5.9L, 46RE swap and complete rebuid

Thought I'd have the 8.8 setup and the drivetrain put in this weekend. Man was I wrong, took me 2 days to set up the axle brackets alone and I still need to finish the final welding. That'll have to wait till next weekend. I did tack it all in and did a trial fit, it all seems to be fine. Artec...

1998 TJ, 5.9L, 46RE swap and complete rebuid

Here's some pics of the Jeep, one is the first day home, second is how it sits now, third is the engine almost ready and trany in progress. Engine got a "lipstick on a pig" make-over. It ran fine before I pulled it, I resealed it, including new head gaskets and a new oil pump and water pump and...

    The Sienna Pearl

Loosen all body mounting bolts. Included one in front for radiator. Loosen one side about 1", remove all bolts from other side. Lift and support side of body with the bolts removed. Remove body mounts, cut the head off bolts that spin. Ones that come out will be reused, ones that don't, cut...
