    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Alright guys I found a solution that worked for me. Finally got around to doing an oil change (5000 miles after 11 months) and went with 10W-30 Pennzoil conventional and a MOPAR filter. It's basically non-existent now. Also the "diesel" sound at idle is significantly diminished. It's starting to...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Mine sounds nothing like the video in that article. I do have slight lifter tick (which would be more alarming if I didn't with this engine seems to be the running joke) but it isn't that extreme. The tick in question definitely seems to be down around the bell housing area when listening from...

    Help identify this noise

Did I see rocks sitting on the skid plate in that video? Easy place to start if so.

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

That’s interesting. I’ve sorta given it over to just assuming it’s lifter tick but to an extreme level. I can definitely hear it get louder when I stick my head down towards the pedals. Mines been coming and going throughout drives, I can’t see any relationship to temperature or pressure when...

Clunk noise on hard acceleration and deceleration

I had the same problem and changed out the trans mount. At first it didn’t fix it, but I went and looked once and the nuts had a small space between them and the skid plate even though I tightened them down originally pretty good I thought. Tightened them back up and never had it again. I guess...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

I took a look at my idle and tensioner pulley and they were pretty shot, replaced them but it wasn’t the fix for me. It definitely quieted things up though. Guess I’ll wait for an oil change.

Thanks for reporting back on your findings!

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Mine does that “stick” thing as well. I was shifting out of first gear at like 4500rpms just to see what would happen and out of frustration, overall it made the noise much worse and do the “stick” way louder. After driving normal it just goes back to normal. Driving it hard as you can seems to...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Well it’s weird timing that this thread gets revived today as I had a small update. I went on another camping trip after switching to the Rotella, so around 170 mile round trip, on average around 2100rpms for most of the highway, I tried to keep it above that the entire time. It was COLD out...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Still no solution found. I took the Heep out to the mountains for a snow camping trip and drove it in higher RPMs for about 200 miles with seafaom in the crank case. Also I got better gas mileage (16-17 MPG) than normal (10-13 MPG). Got back into town and did my oil change, what came out had no...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Yeah I'm with you, the amount of messing around with that area and I haven't seen any change in noise I'm going to rule it out. I'm going to try that rotella next week and see what it does, it's driving me nuts. I've been running it with seafoam in the crank case and that definitely got rid of a...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Finally tried the smoke test with seafoam. I tried getting a video but it was dark and windy so the camera didn't pick anything up. After revving it up for a few seconds at the point where the noise came out smoke started coming out of the right precat/manifold joint which I had previously...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

I don't think it is, mine hasn't always sounded like this it's relatively new. Plus as time goes on it's becoming louder. I remember when I barely noticed it for the first time I thought I was imagining it.

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

I managed to get a little time to get the sound recorded. I was surprised to see that it only gets picked up on video on the drivers side foot well. In person it's clearly heard anywhere in the cab. Also I don't know if its because its cold out now but its moved down from around 2000 RPMs being...

    Tough to diagnose ticking noise

Yeah like ledfoot said the zinc is not good for cats, but if I'm doing damage to my cam then I guess I'd rather hurt the cat than the cam. My engine has gotten a lot noisier and I'm just gonna try the zinc stuff next change and see how big of a difference it is.
