Got my first Jeep in 1998. It was a pavement princess 96 Cherokee. Never significantly modified (what a shame). Jeep #2 was a BRAND NEW 2003 TJ Rubicon. Simple 3" BDS lift with a body lift/ motor mount spacers, 33 Engineering belly skid and 33" tires. I wheeled that thing all over hells half-acre and she never let me down. Then I married into some kids, so we sold the TJ in 2013 (mistake) and got a JKU. I had a couple of those but never had money to do anything to them (see: kids). Silver lining was that I decided I didn't really want to build a JK anyway. Got back into TJ's in 2021 with an '04 with 56k miles. Totally stock.
I'm trying to do it right this time. Buy once, cry once.
