Tummy tuck with Rough Country ultra high clearance skid plate

Old post but @Don Bulee the RC 1126 says it specifically does NOT fit Rubicon models with automatic transmissions but you did it. Any issues before I buy?

    FRP tuning for 97-06 TJs

I'm really confused. What exactly do I need to buy to tune my bone stock 2003 4.0L TJ Automatic? How much is the all-in cost for a canned tune?

Is there a way to make the 42RLE overdrive switch stay off by default?

With OD on, transmission shifts way too soon into OD. With OD off, transmission shifts way too soon into 3rd. What idiot setup these shift points and why didn't Jeep come out with a TCM or PCM update to fix them?

Wiring the 42RLE overdrive for off by default

Yep. Not ideal to expose that pin to voltage when it is only expecting a ground. The ECM must be protected somehow. I've been using it now for a week a love it. In my opinion this is the best value upgrade for a TJ with a 42RLE. Cheers to @AndyG !

Wiring the 42RLE overdrive for off by default

So when you start the Jeep, pin 30 = ground. The instant the relay closes, due to voltage from reverse/backup tap, pin 87 connects to ground via pin 30 and toggles OD to OFF. Pin 87 only sees ground for milliseconds until the TCM sends voltage to pin 30. Pin 30 then always has voltage so it...

Wiring the 42RLE overdrive for off by default

Oh...and I used @Maso method of removing terminals from connector which is a pain if you don't do it right. I used an eyeglass screwdriver, the tiniest one. You want to slide it down the top of the metal of connector to push up on the plastic tab. I don't know how @Maso did it with round...

Wiring the 42RLE overdrive for off by default

I added the relay to my 2003 TJ Rubicon today. My wire colors were a little different: -Purple/Black is my backup/reverse wire color so that went to pin 86. -Dark Green/Light Blue went to pin 30. -Orange/White went to pin 87 (I don't have the blue wire) -Black went to pin 85 (grabbed the ground...

42RLE Solenoid Pack & Valve Body Rebuild

I disconnected both connectors and the shift cable bracket today as part of my dry run. It was much easier with the shift console and access panel removed.

42RLE Solenoid Pack & Valve Body Rebuild

While I'm waiting for valve body parts I decided to do a dry run. There were a few things I learned that I didn't find anywhere else: 1. It was helpful to remove the shift cable mounting bracket from the transmission to access the left side connector (2 bolts with 13mm heads). 2. I was...

42RLE Solenoid Pack & Valve Body Rebuild

I went ahead and bought 3 different kits from Transgo and the Mopar solenoid pack. I'll follow-up after install in a few weeks. More likely I'll reach out when I get stuck. Thanks again.

42RLE Solenoid Pack & Valve Body Rebuild

Thank you Jerry for the thorough reply and photos. A couple more things: 1. I was planning on doing the Transgo kit shown below only. Does this make sense? 2. Do you know the part number of the Mopar Solenoid Pack?

42RLE Solenoid Pack & Valve Body Rebuild

Reviving this thread, looking for some advice. 2003 Rubicon 4.0L with 42RLE, 180k miles. Bought it 6 months ago with torque converter shudder. Flushed fluid and changed filter, shudder is still present but better. A couple of weeks ago I had just got up to speed on the freeway and CEL came on...
