Heff, Watch the video from 1:18, he talks about the 241 vs 231 and needing to know which one you have prior to purchasing the switch. I believe the Rubicon is NP241, which has the larger 1.5" switch. I'm sure someone will confirm.

I stumbled across the answer to my question... in '00 they used one damper up until 2/11/00 after which they switched to the other one used thru '01. The '00 lists that slinger as # J317 3076 but in '01 as "not required". That would indicate the damper change negated the need for the slinger...

Replacing my timing chain & sprockets on the 2.5L. The FSM says there should be an oil slinger between the cover seal and crankshaft sprocket . Is it possible the PO removed it or do some 2.5’s not have oil slingers?

So what did you end up going with?

Disregard the idea about cutting the ears, grinding & welding. After removing the heatshield & doing a test fit it looks like I've got plenty of clearance. I think the marks that I was seeing was from when I lost one of the socket head cap cap screws and the plate was loose.

I replaced it Oct ‘20 along with the motor mounts, so it lasted almost 3 years. It had a lifetime warranty, so I had to return the old one to get the new one under warranty. I was considering removing the heat shield, is there’s a benefit to leaving it? The one that failed was missing 3 of the 7...

I put a cheap dial caliper on the manifold and got 38mm on the round opening, 34mm on the flat side & 32mm on the exhaust port on the head. It looks like I've got a 2mm cushion, assuming that they line up correctly.
