    New Tool Day

I lack enough air to run a spray gun for fluid film/equiv. Not a huge deal since all tools are electric but an annoyance. This was a the local pawn shop for $89, figured why not.

    Truck upgrade for occasional towing

Our rental truck last month in California was a 2500 with the 6.4. Besides the gas mileage and 4 cylinder mode I liked it quite a bit. It took a day or so to get used to (at the time all I was used to was midsized trucks and suv’s), but after that I enjoyed it. The ride is quite nice for a...

TJ Steering Shafts and Bearings: What I Know

Are we crazy? A road trip to Estes Park, CO.

Caught this thread late but did the RMNP (then Moab) trip from Ohio. Great fun and glad it seems to be going well! We found some decent boondocking roughly in the area of RMNP. If you head that way and have any questions related to taking the camper let me know.

Jeep TJ LS Swap Guide (Engine, Wiring, Cost & Step-by-Step)

What year tj pump? Yes, seals for sure. I thought I did myself a favor doing all seals (that was a favor) and lifters but my dumbass bought lifters from a non reputable vendor so dealing with that now, and by dealing with I mean driving until it gets decently bad.

I have the smallest “professional” Stihl I bought brand new 6 years ago, it’s getting listed when my M18 comes in this week. It’s hard to want to deal with gas when I use it once a week for 10 minutes max. Also selling my blowers as well and just using an M18...

The Enshittification Chronicles: Crap Products & Fake Reviews

I am running APEC brand, I do believe the housing is overseas but the filters are US made. It seems most under sink unit housings are overseas as well. I’m fairly certain I saw US complete units at 2-3x cost. I was on a budget when I put mine in 2 years ago, zero issues so far.

    Driving Automation

In my early career (high school) I ran a production machine. After so many times doing the same thing one loses focus and might press go before a part is loaded, etc. I now program the robots that load machines amongst many other things. It’s fine to be skeptical of things, its fine to...

    Driving Automation

My wife’s Tacoma has a basic version of self driving, it simply keeps you in the lane, start and stop. I don’t fully rely on it but it is convenient on the highway for roadtrips.

Why are Toyota FJ's so popular?

Sorry for the poor photo but this was a pretty cool setup in Ouray

Why are Toyota FJ's so popular?

The FJ is almost exactly a 4th gen 4Runner in terms of chassis, driveline, etc. I’m at 263k on this 4th gen and it’s just… good. It’s like your favorite hammer, it isn’t the best tool for every job, but it works and feels natural. It’s a vehicle that I had to live with for a bit to fall in...

    4.8 Swap LJ

I’ve driven it enough to know it’s perfectly adequate and not at all a performance machine. I’ve said it before, it’s exactly what you would have wanted from the factory in 2006. Doing it all again it’d have a TR4050 and a very mild 5.3.
