What gear ratio for 35 inch tires?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have advised against 4.11 and to go instead with 4.56 for 33's, 4.0 engine, and 5-speed transmission.
I concur.
I have 4.56 in my XJ 4.0 C8.25/Dana 30 NP231 Automatic I bought this way. Would prefer 4.88 with the 231TC. Manual 4.56 should be great.
231 vs 241 is apples and oranges.

Guy who did my install asked me if I didn’t want 4.56 but I “out thunk” myself and thought I d do the 4.11 s because of a plan to do 4.6-4.7 L stroker …. Original 4.0 at 204K and still running like a champ !! 😂

You don’t need more than 33’s to be able to go off-road and have fun. 33’s are very capable, especially with a front lunchbox locker. You do need different gears. To determine the best ratio we need to know your engine, transmission, and final tire size. Post those. Also, I’d add a 1.25” body lift to the 3” lift for 33’s. Gives the tire more room, you can lose some bumpstop, et al. Let’s see a pic of your Jeep!

Manual or auto?
Its an auto

Be aware that many of the ratios being mentioned/recommended above are from those who own different transmissions which changes the ratio that works well. Your 4-speed 42RLE automatic transmission has a unique trait, an extra-steep .69 Overdrive ratio that drops the rpms so much that you need axle gears that are geared low enough to get the engine rpms back up into the normal power zone. That's why I recommended 5.13, don't go with 4.56 or 4.88... you'd hate the results.

There she is! Nice rig. With your 42rle and limited by the Dana 30 up front, I'd go with 513 as @Jerry Bransford mentioned. My sons have the 42rle in their 2004 TJ and they run 33's and 373 gears (they're poor). The moment they get in the rig they turn the O/D off. I was riding with one of them today and when we hit a hill he shifted the auto into 2nd to get some rpm's back. I'm sure when they regear they'll go to 513.

I checked out his profile before posting - it just said "automatic" transmission. Perhaps I missed it. Good catch.
You are right and didn't miss. I just assumed being a 2005 automatic it was the 42rle.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I'm an AV-15 guy, and admittedly, have trouble keeping all the autos straight. 🤷‍♂️

Well I did not get the gears changed because I ran out of money for the moment. However, I did get all new 33 tires and I swapped from a single to a dual front steering stabalizer

New gear box?
A bit tongue in cheek, but the only thing a dual steering stabilizer does is create unnecessary load on your steering components, particularly the steering gear. There is no problem or situation for which the dual steering stabilizer is the solution.

Well I guess I should have asked around before doing that then. I was hoping that it would make the Jeep easier to drive when my wife has to use it in an emergency. If you don't mind, would you send me a pm of the parts that I need to replace? I am new to this and used the 2 is better than 1 logic

Not to encourage dual steering dampers, but do you really think they are going to wear out the steering gear in a manner that anyone can point to?

No worse than running a gas charged stabilizer I guess…

😉
