LED headlights lumens too high for on-road use?

Quality lighting is very, very expensive, because making precision optics is very, very expensive.
In general, I agree. Mostly, the idea that “you don’t always get what you pay for, but if you don’t pay for it, you won’t get it“ holds true. However, a year or so ago I bought Vision X lenses and Supernova V4 bulbs from the above referenced Headlight Revolution site ($160 for everything). They are similar in appearance to Toyota or JK 7” housings (that is to say a stock look) but with the advantage of LED bulbs. The beam pattern has a very sharp upper cut off. I have them aimed so the upper edge of the pattern is a couple of inches below headlight center height at 12 feet out. I never get flashed and the visibility at night is similar to my wife’s newer fancy SUV with stock LED lights (although they don’t turn into corners like hers does).

I had all the lights in my jeep converted over to Code 4 LED a local company in Utah. They did an excellent job, but my question is I get Flashed by oncoming traffic and get yelled at all the time by other drivers. They think my hi beams are on in my jeep. I have looked at the local laws in Utah and It seems like LED are just more blinding color range than Halogen despite being just a tad better on the Lumen brightness.

I was curious what your thoughts are and if this is an issue you have dealt with as a Jeep Owner with LED lights. View attachment 293183

What kind of fender flares are on your Jeep. What year is it.

This made me giggle. I've worked with Marines from all over the country over the past 11 years. took me a while to narrow it down but i can now pick out the ones from Florida without asking. Y'all got something in the water down there that's for damn sure.
I thinks it's cargo scuttled by drug runners.

I hate 'em driving at oncoming traffic equipped with 'em. Would never want 'em for my headlights. Trail, accessory lights ok and are really great for retaliatory purposes... almost as good as an EMP.

I get flashed in my 100% stock truck quite often. Sorry but I'm not adjusting my stock headlights but if I put some of these new LEDs in my lifted Jeep, I'd certainly make sure they are adjusted accordingly. Some of them are absolutely blinding.

Oddly (or not), there is federal regulation on headlight aiming but there is not a regulation that they need to be aimed properly from the factory. You may want to check them.

Why not? They're easily adjusted.

Because I've driven in front of them and I don't find them to be too bright. I don't think they need adjustment. Some obviously disagree. Some of these new cars are bright but everyone has their own tolerances on what they think is too bright.

Obviously your oncoming drivers disagree. If I was getting flashed all the time it would be a no-brainer for me to figure out my headlights need to be adjusted. Too bad not everyone gets that.

I checked mine last night against my garage and about 25ft back. They seemed a tad high, so I adjusted them and then drove around the neighborhood and visibility is still great. Thanks for the info wish a few other people would be a tad less abrasive in talking about things.

Like I said, I've driven in front of them and I don't find them to be out of adjustment. They are simply brighter than some like. Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean you're correct. The contemptuous comments aren't necessary. Too bad not everyone gets that.

Those of you that cannot see at night, within DOT spec lights, seriously need to go to an opthalmologist and get checked out. Completely serious. Maybe you have cataracts or another addressable issue that can be fixed.

If not fixable... well old people stop driving for a reason.

Sticking stadium lights on your ride and telling everyone else to F*** off is a giant a**h*le maneuver, and criminal.
Tits, man....cool them. You're going to give yourself a coronary. I get the impression you were a disgruntled moth in a former life. :ROFLMAO:

Well other approach didn't seem to puncture your odd sense of entitlement. Headlight adjustment is very easy and not being a highway douchbag is one bare minimum standard for being a decent person.

You're not even intelligent enough to spell douchebag correctly in 2021 with spellcheck and the internet. You know, the amount of people that feel compelled to call others names (like we're in fucking grade school) during a discussion on a forum is fascinating. Keyboard tough guys that are probably decent people in real life but hate their wives, or their father beat them or some shit. I don't know, I tend to try to refrain from saying shit online that I wouldn't say to your face but please preach about being a decent person. I want to hear all about it.

Funny thing is many of those $100 or less Chinese lights that look exactly like the name brand are in fact the same thing.

I don't mean a reasonably good copy, I mean literally the same light from the same factory. They sell them off label out the back door (a.k.a. Amazon).

Fairly new owner of a 2005 TJ that came with LED headlights. While they look really cool, I don't think they are better at lighting at night, and I get flashed continuously.

What little research I've done says most inexpensive LED headlights are crap and throw light everywhere, as opposed to halogen.

I purchased the Toyota kit and it's on my to-do list to install soon.

Right now I hate driving at night because of those stupid LEDs.

The JW Speaker lights have been copied over and over again by the Chinese.... so have the Trucklites..... Both are made in the US and I'm sure they are not selling them out the backdoor to Amazon for $100 a pair.

That video I posted shows their performance in relation to the real thing.... not even close.

The lens, housing (heat sink) material and component quality are vastly different.

I'd love to see the connection between a name brand high performing lite and one of the "name of the week" lights from Amazon if you've got an independent source.

What I found when I looked was much different. I found shops in town selling "LED upgrade packages" for $800 or so that would swap out all exterior lights with LED's. They hade JW Speaker rip-offs they were selling for $250 or so that you can find on Amazon for #100 or so. I asked if they used the real Speaker lights and they said no..... My guess is if they were not rip off copies they would have said they are the same thing. Interesting that they didn't have any set up and no installations you could look at to see the quality.
