What did you do to your TJ today?

Bought me an LJ today. Body is in pretty good condition, frame not so much on a corner. Not sure if I am going to sell as is, fix the frame to sell or keep, or LS it like my TJ since I know what I am doing this time around. If I can sell my truck and a $250 Kia I got I might just keep this as a solid winter beater once the cap is welded in.

Hey you’re already part way there to a long arm install! 😅

A little frame cleanup

Flat tube fenders front and rear
I think they are made by paramount 🤷‍♂️
I got the whole set off craigslist.

I cut and welded in the grill on the sides and installed the turn signals in there. They all got a healthy coat of rust oleum Berliner.

As a Safety Officer onboard an aircraft carrier, I find the name of this Jeep, amazing. Plus, you can never go wrong with those rims! Looks so good! Cheers.

A thorough inspection of the gaskets mating surfaces may provide the answer to the leak.
Did that - didn't see anything untoward. Cleaned everything up and put it back together. I've heard of problems with sub-optimal gaskets in this location, what I took off wasn't a Felpro. Or maybe there was a bit of old gasket left from the time before - I did have a hard time getting the bottom side cleaned up. *shrug*

HA glad you see the humor in it! Thank you! I really like the aesthetic of these wheels, but the off-set is really shallow. So if I were to do it again I would find something different

At this stage you stop polishing it and just "Rat It Up" looks better with the battle scars and you can just jump out after a trip and forget :)
I quit polishing it some time ago, although I have been known to wash it every couple months. I don't think i will "Rat It Up" , but if getting over the next obstacle means another scar............We're going over the obstacle!

AAAAND, its still leaking. Just a tiny drop. Tightened the two bolts to 25 NM (spec is 20). When that doesn't do the trick, I guess its Permatex time as I sure don't see anything wrong with the mating surfaces - it may be a co-planarity problem.

So here’s a couple of ideas: not that u may not have thought of these…make sure both surfaces are super clean and as flat as possible. Sandpaper on a flat surface then alcohol. If using permeated or silicone, put it on both surfaces the tighten but not to torque specs. Wait 30 min then go back and torque down. Wait a little longer before adding antifreeze. Good luck

It may indeed be coplanitary. Sand down surfaces, clean with alcohol and when reinstalling put Permatex on both surfaces and only tighten moderately. Wait about 30 min to torque to specs and maybe wait a few hours before adding fluid
