The Bargain Box

I'm not sure I know the super 35 term but I'm assuming you mean beefed up? For now I'm just keeping it simple. When/if it breaks I will upgrade axle shafts. Wish I could find a junkyard 44 that I could swap in.

A Super35 is a kit for the Dana 35 that changes it from a 27 spline axle shafts to 30 spline axle shafts. By changing your axle shafts and carrier it makes them the same spline count as a Dana 44.
The Dana 35 has some weaknesses such as the stock carrier and stock axles. If you are staying with 33" and smaller tires you can just install some 1541 axle shafts and you should be good. If you want a locker or limited slip make sure you use a full case replacement traction aid.
If you are going to 35" tires at some point then you need to seriously be looking at a Super35 kit or a replacement axle such as a Dana 44.

This is very good info so thank you. 33 is the largest I'm looking to go so I'm going to keep it simple. I do want a locker so I know I'll need a new carrier but I need a new carrier for the gear ratio I'm going to anyway. Was planning on the axle shaft upgrade at a later date.

There are I think 3 companies that offer a 30 spline locker for the Dana 35. Since you want to add a locker it's still not a bad idea to go ahead and install a 30 spline over the stock 27 spline. Look up Super 35 kits and you can see they really don't cost any more than if you were to do a 27 spline locker and new shafts. You need to stay away from 4340 cromo axle shafts as they don't work well with the style of bearings used on the Dana 35. Instead you want 1541 shafts. This applies to 27 spline or 30 spline axle shafts.

Something along the lines of this?

Yes

Do a search on here and you'll find a few threads on the subject.
Thanks for the solid advice. That number plus a ring and pinion is lnt far off from the number I had for gears, carrier, bearing/spacer/seal kit, and either a lunchbox locker or Detroit/Eaton limited slip.

You don't want a lunch box locker in the rear axle. Get a full replacement carrier.
The only problem with the Super 35 kits are that no one offers a limited slip type carrier in the 30 spline.

The grizzly locker in the above link says 100 percent lock with clutch disengagement when turning on the street. Yukon list it as an LSD. Sounds like a fancy lunchbox doesn't it? You think that's a bad idea?

The Grizzly locker is the same as a Detroit locker as far as I know. It's a good choice for where you live.

I have been rolling around the idea of the super 35 upgrade all day. I'm not planning on going to 35" tires anytime in the future. Most things I've read state 33" or lower are fine on the stock 35 axles. If anything just upgrade to a stronger 27 spline axle. Would you agree with that conclusion or am I missing something? Do you think the below is a good deal and just add a Detroit for the rear and lunchbox/new carrier for the front?

Yes the Dana 35 is fine with stock size axle shafts but it doesn't hurt to upgrade to the aftermarket shafts for added strength.
And a Detroit in the rear axle and lunchbox locker in the front axle is fine. It's what I ran in mine before I swapped out axles.

I'm going to go ahead and get these gears kits while they are on sale. I'll hunt for a good deal on lockers. Now I just need someone to install them or help me! Everyone wants and arm and a leg to do the work and it's pushing the limits of my abilities.

Replaced my junk RC shocks with rancho rs5000x from FB marketplace. Painted black to match the exterior.
