After my Jeep BBQ last month it’s time to mount a fire extinguisher. What’s everyone’s favorite style or spot. I need some ideas

This is how I did mine on both TJs. The seat slides over it fine and it's not in the way of my feet. I have a link to the spring steel mount if you're interested.

I copied Jerry, but I have the big boy brackets, so I could only fit a 2.5lb extingusher. It sits on top of the hump instead of in front of it.

Thanks for the info so far. I have an under seat drawer installed under my driver seat. Tho I could mount an extinguisher in front of the passenger seat I suppose. Anyone have any input on the roll bar mounted extinguishers?

No way to say it without people getting bent out of shape but it's gotta be said. Given the obvious analogy of holding a baby while driving a vehicle on the streets and a spring clamp holding an extinguisher which is applying nothing more than hand pressure it is amazing people still recommend this. Planning on not getting into an accident is poor planning. You should have a latch that prevents the extinguisher from coming free in an accident. Do some research, spring clamps are not legal in any form or racing or pretty much any vehicle activity that has rules of any kind. Really, your extinguisher bouncing around your cab is really your deal but I try to mention this on every one of these threads at least once when somebody posts that spring mount.

Something like this? I stole Jerry's mounting spot idea and just used the latching mount that came with the fire extinguisher. To be honest, I didn't take the time to think about the safety aspects of the spring clip versus the latch, I was just too cheap to buy something extra although I am now considering adding a spring clip to add more support for the extinguisher and spread out the stress on the mount. May be overthinking it, though. The current setup has held up through several years of off-roading and shows no signs of wanting to tap out.

I have no problems with a floor/foot-level spring clip for my extinguisher, especially since it's a very tight/strong clip. If it was higher up I'd use a locking clamp arrangement.

Exactly, a solid metal latch. Something you can't rip out by hand kinda like your seatbelt. My post obviously is going to be irritating to those that choose the spring mount, that's not it at all. I just want to jog the little safety bug in that one guy that just didn't think about it and that's it.

Safety stuff can be so difficult to discuss. It's like pipe on a flatbed. Millions of miles are driven every year with that stuff tied down improperly and nothing happens. But people harp on doing it right because of the one time the pipe ends up through the cab and your chest.

@LONGJP2, what's your favorite mount? Most people that have already commented are big kids and have made up their minds about this issue a long time ago. People stumbling across this thread in the future are probably just looking for good ideas like the Amerex B417T which comes with a nice metal mounting bracket that has a latch and a metal valve. I know it's not big enough for some.
