Barnett Diff Covers

I didn’t say it was junk…

I’m after the most wheelbase I can get with a stretch tank and the best ground clearance.
LJ#2 is getting the stretch with the full float RJ60 and stretch tank. But that full float cost a lot more than my semi on LJ#1.

So in your opinion 5-7” stretch on 35s is not worth it?
99-101 on 35's out there with a 19"ish belly height is absolutely worth it. Please note the distinction between an actual wheelbase number and the bullshit stretch number amounts published by folks trying to take your money. They are not the same numbers.

They are selling 7" over stock. You are not stock. That and as much as you street drive it, you're gonna hate a 15 gallon tank.

I understand the marketing is BS. I believe they claim for 9” with the 15 gallon tank. I wouldn’t be surprised if we couldn’t even get 7” out of it. That is still going to be my best off the shelf option for a fuel tank. Unless you want to build one like cliffs again?

I expect to refuel every ~100 miles with that tank. Yes that sucks but I can barely get over 150 right now.

I had the opportunity to chat with Mike over at T and J this afternoon. I asked him what was up with the diff covers. He explained that they are still waiting on Dana to get them covers.

Well, crap. I talked to Houston there on the 30th, and he thought the Dana shipment was very close to arrival, and he put me down for a couple and said he'd call when they're made. It's now two weeks later, so I was hoping that I'd get a call soon, figuring it probably takes a couple weeks for them to modify them. This news crushes my dreams of a ship date soon...

Mine took over 5 weeks, but I may send them some to have them converted.

Height of the fill plug generally.

When I was looking for better covers for my LJR, I noticed the base cover for the Barnett cover has a higher fill plug than both my stock Rubicon Dana 44 covers. Before I spoke with Houston, I thought about asking if I could send them my covers to be modified, but the fill plugs on mine are both too low, so I didn't bother asking.

So as someone who is just trying to learn ins/outs of welding... why this wire? is it something to do with the metal used in the housing or does the 'hardfacing' mean it is stronger... or something else I'm missing (most likely obvious)?
Your welding to cast (iron?).

Hardfacing wire is used to put a very hard and abrasion-resistant surface on an item. It's used on excavation equipment all the time. I assume mrblaine is recommending that because it is very resistant to sliding on rocks, not because it makes welding wrought steel to cast steel easier. Welding wrought to cast requires pre-heating and controlled cooling because the two materials expand at different rates as they cool and will crack if not done properly. I think a high silicone wire will help with that, but it takes some skill to do it right either way.

OK, so this would be instead of the aforementioned welding a 1/4" plate to the bottom?
In addition to. The plate still wears away, the hard facing slows that way down. I know of almost no grown or mostly grown adult male who hasn't seen hard facing before, they likely just didn't know what they were looking at.

It is done on most any implement that digs in the ground. Backhoe buckets, dozer blades, etc. to slow down wear.
