Most car guys and machinist are also into guns and watches, it seems ubiquitous.
I've always dreamed about getting the Cartier Roadster. Happy 61st birthday to me. I'm speechless, but I'll try. lol
She literally feels like butter flowing on the wrist, worth the wait of 30+ years of dreaming of getting this watch!
The first shot isn't the lighting, those numbers that appear light green and glowing, are. With the intermittent smaller red numerals and the radial lines, they're supposed to remind you of the speedometer of an old Porsche 356 Speedster. The crown is reminiscent of the old Dagmar bumper ends on an 50's era Cadillacs or the tail lens of the 57 Caddy, however you see it. The recessed screws on the corners are styled after the "Frenched in" tail lights of some custom hot rods. The elongated, integral date "cyclops" is a homage to several speedometer housings, namely the Corvette.
The smooth, flowing lines of the watch represent the smooth, 30's-50's sweeping car lines long gone, the bright stainless is a homage to the chrome. There is nothing about this watch that is done by chance, everything about it is well thought out deliberate design. Given my profession, that's probably why I love it so much.
But, one of the coolest features is the "quick disconnecting" end links allowing you to replace the bracelet with a strap in a matter of seconds, way too cool.
Best birthday ever, thanks for letting me share.
EDIT: The watch wasn't released until 2001, it just seemed like 30+ years to me and my old brain I guess? lol

dang dude you got one of the originals! congrats!

i worked for Cartier for nearly 20 years on and off and this was a huge hit when it launched.. hit me up if you ever have any questions, i'm happy to help.

one tip: take a dry toothbrush to that quick release mechanism on the back of bracelet once every couple of months to get the crud out. you'd be surprised the amount of buildup that accumulates in there and when it gets packed, it can allow the quick release to open on its own.

Thanks, great tip and I will.
Cartier has admitted it was a huge mistake discontinuing the over popular Roadsters and the "Vegas" dial (as you know, they never referred to it as this) would be the perfect one for such a re-launch!
Thank you.

you'll be stylin' and profilin' like the Nature Boy at the neighborhood BBQ with that time piece and your new Colt

Well Zorba, coming from a man that parades around the house in a dress, panties and high heels, I'll take that as a compliment. lol, thanks.
No panties, and seldom dresses. Panties don't fit very well, why wear them? Dresses have to be made for me to fit correctly, so they're expensive - skirts work better. Heels once in a while, although the damn things hurt! Actually, I only have one pair of heels that go with a specific costume. But I wore them for several days with a mundane skirt as it eased my post-op leg pain when I had nerve surgery. I actually just put the heels on for the relief - I was wearing plain old shorts. Wife said, "you look ridiculous, go put on a skirt."

Just keepin' the record straight - I've found that most men don't actually know the difference between a dress and a skirt! A dress hangs from the shoulders, a skirt hangs from the waist or hips. Aren't you glad you asked? ;) :D

Oh no you don't!
Don't "drag" (couldn't resist) me into this, I said you were paying me a compliment by your response, your the one that went all down the panty skirt dress road in full regalia? bahahaha

Above, please find both your quotes! "Just the facts, ma'am; just the facts." :ROFLMAO:

Yep - it was indeed a compliment - very nice watch, just not my thing. But the record will show that it wasn't *I* who brought up panties, dresses, heels, et al. Just sayin'. :devilish:

Zorba, I'd like to have a cigar and a drink with you if I could, just imagine all the problems we could solve and the laughs we'd have? lol

Thanx for your kind words - I don't know if we'd solve many problems, but we could try - BUT - we certainly could have some laughs!

You gotta have a sense of humor to make it through life. If you're weird like I am - that goes DOUBLE!

Getting this thread back to the dress vs. skirt (off) topic, can we drop the panties and add a kilt?

Have you ever worn a kilt?
Are they acceptable in any particular dance that's not at the bar within a week of St. Patrick's Day?

All I know about them is that they hang from the waist, there's got to be more to them, like are they only used by Scottish and Irish men and am I a racist, a sexist or maybe both if I ask that?
