How to install Hyundai Tiburon seats in a Jeep Wrangler TJ

Well I got a set of 2003 Mini cooper S seats. They we're bolted to the OEM Jeep TJ frame and clears the doors panels and center console. All the seats adjustments work and occupied the original configuration. The leather seat color matches 99% with factory interior grey color. My only complaint after a year of using the seat is my butt easily sides in the leather seat. Also I think mod at end of day brings the value of the Jeep TJ down on resale. Otherwise nice upgrade from stock seat.

@Kaptainkid1 what year is your TJ? Or better asked which seat mounts do you have? Iirc 97-02 have same mounts. 03 and up are slightly different.

I have a 98 TJ. There is an 06 Mini Cooper at Pull a Part. Going to go check next week.

I have a stock 2002 TJ Sport. I only used 2003 Mini cooper Seats which it was only made from 2002-2006. I'm not sure if next generation of seats will fit.

Cool. I have an 04 and am going to go check out some 06 Mini Cooper seats Tuesday. Will be interesting to see if they work for my seat mounts/rails

Also Mini Cooper made two types of seats which the only difference was the S or Sport package had higher bolsters. I installed both versions in the Jeep and I noticed the base model seat with lower bolsters were easier to slide on off if you have a raised Jeep. My Jeep has a 3.5in lift with no side steps. It's a pain in the ass getting in and out. I kept the sports thinking the higher bolsters would help in off road situations. Everyday drive not so much.

I dig those Mini Coopers. They are comfy. I traveled the east coast in a Mini Coop w/ my wife Fl to Pa and then some and they were great! (Yes were still friends) Good choice. I have a set of Mitsubishi Eclipse seats to be installed in my '06 LJ. Over a foot of snow outside an no garage. Tooooo COOOLD. The Hyundai seats are a good choice as well. Those were the first choice. couldnt find any near me. I wasnt aware of the cooper fit. My mistake, next set TBD Thanks for posting this info

Hold up man, I gotta call you on this one. I've seen the list of parts you have in mind over on your build thread. You obviously understand the value of high quality components. Yet you're heading to Pull-A-Part (presumably) for some second hand seats? These Mini Cooper seats must really be something! :ROFLMAO:

I'm pretty damned happy with the JK seats that I put in our '03. The flip isn't fully functional because the cable setup is way different, but we don't generally have rear passengers anyway.
The seats are larger than the TJ seats, and we already had the big boy brackets.
That gave me enough room to add the 8" powered sub to fill in the audio for a way better listening experience with the top down and/or doors off.

Cool, I haven't seen this done before. Any interference (center console, roll bar) due to the wider seats?

They are bit wider, but I was very careful with measuring center of steering wheel to center of the seat before making the final hole placement in the Big Boy brackets.
Already having these brackets made the swap much easier, as I could easily relocate the seat bracket in relation to the holes in the tub.
I had to modify the tilt/recline levers a bit in order to help make them more accessible. If you look into the splines, they are made to only fit in 1 of 2 positions (180°) from each other. I drilled out the blocking part in the handle and was able to rotate them to get them where I wanted them. The housing of the adjuster still hits the roll bar when sliding the seat all the way forward/back, but once the seats are positioned, it's not an issue.

Hi guys. I’ve picked up a pair but can’t figure out how to remove that rear bracket. The fixings seem round rather than normal nuts?

I didn't remove that piece. I did have to trim the side of to clear the seat belt retractor on my 06. It might be a little different on yours.

I drilled out the 2 rivets that hold the bracket on and then discarded them. I used the 2 resulting holes in the rails to mount the Tiburon seats to the flat bar shown in the attached pic. Note the 2 holes at each end of the rear cross bar. This is a good spot to add shims if you want to elevate the back of the seats. I just cut additional small flat bar pieces, drilled 2 holes in each one and adjusted the height.

Cheers. Have no doubt I’ll have more questions.

Then how do you mount the bracket at the front where on the Tiburón seats it’s angled rather than flat?

I heated mine up with a torch and flattened them with a hammer. I imagine you could remove them like I did for the rear brackets but in my case flattening the fronts worked.

Awesome. I might pick up a torch, annoyingly i threw my old Rothenberger away when we emigrated :(

Also realised all my drill bits are in storage which is annoying.
