Yes, I ran a K&N for a few years. Removing it was one of the first lessons I learned on this forum. Fortunately I haven’t found any dirt in mine, just that bit of oil in my original picture.
What will that change? I will either get that it needs a prefilter sock or I didn't maintain the element correctly with their special oil. They will never admit that their filter doesn't.

Of course not, then they'ed be outta business. How to fix it? You already added that to your post Ah, but at least they are kinda truthful in claiming the dirtier it gets the better it works. A handful of mud would be the best thing for one.
