Tire Decision In Absence of 35x12.50x15 MT/R

My entire wheel journey started because i wanted to get away from the 16" wheel size. If I had known the 35" MTR in a 15" was going away, I would have gone straight to 17s.

Off topic .. but do you know anyone running Kenda Klever RT? They make a 33x9.5x15 that I am curious about. You also get a 35x12.5x15 in a load C. I vaguely remember @BuildBreakRepeat was going to try them but not sure if he got them or not.

I also needed to replace my GY MTR a few months ago, ended up going with Nitto trail grapplers. Great so far, though I believe they're also near impossible to find right now.

Before I found the Nitto, I was going to get the Cooper discoverer STT pro. I had them in a 35" and had no complaints about them other than they seemed a little small in a 35 X 12.5 X 15. They gripped the rocks well and handled good on the road. Probably the best MT tire I've used on road.

I also would've gotten the Mickey Thompson baja boss. Couldn't find those at the time either though.

I currently run maxxis razrs too in 35x12.50x15. I like them quite a bit. They work well here on the east coast. Grip pretty well on wet rocks. Ride very well on the road. I will say if I drove my jeep a lot I wouldn't expect them to last as long on the street vs say a cooper, goodyear or bfg. They were significantly cheaper than either of those 3 brands when I bought them in 2019. They didn't take much weight to balance out on my factory ravine wheels.

I have run the cooper stt pro in a different size on a previous rig. I really liked those as well and would recommend them. They performed well in the rocks here on the east coast.

Oh wow nittos look way better, really true to size like the Mtr,my next set of tires

Keep in mind those are 37's, not 35's. Also they were near impossible to find a few months ago.

It was pretty funny: I called my local America's Tire and asked for them. He gave me a long story about about how they're on national back order, not taking any more orders because there's already a list of people that want them, blah blah blah.

ME: Ok then, what do you have in a 37 x 12.5 x 17?

Him: Oh wait, there's a set of 4 Nittos in Alabama! Do you want them?

Me: Um, yes please!

Didn't hold my breath waiting. Figured they might be the wrong tires or something. Sure enough, they were correct.

They are also significantly heavier in a 35 which many don't like. Not a big weight difference between the MTR and TG in a 37 though.

So far I've noticed the Nitto seems to handle better than my MTR did on the freeway. I keep looking down and seeing I'm going around 75 mph+ which would never happen with the MTR. Usual max speed with the MTR was 65mph.

So far the Klever KR601 R/T has been a great tire. I'm running them in 35x10.50 on a 17 inch wheel. They are pretty soft and grippy on the trail with good road manners.

Today I had the Cooper STT Pro installed. Can't believe how much better the steering characteristics are with new tires. The previous condition was no fault of the MT/R. They were 12 years old and quite worn out.

First pavement impressions of the Coopers are good. Not near as loud as the worn tires. Can't wait to hit the trails to see how they perform.

I agree they are a good ride and not a lot of hum and solid off-road. I’ll be back to them after my KM3’s and Razr’s, though I do like my KM3’s, just not as much as Cooper’s. They are a hybrid and not a full MT.

I’ve run these tires in this order; GY MT/R’s, Cooper STT Pro, Maxxis Razr, and KM3’s. That’s almost the order I’d rank them, Apparently my tire choices are getting worse. I’ll either go back to the Cooper STT Pro in a 15 or move to 17’s when the time comes.
Curious what you didn’t like about the Razr's? Mine seem to be working well but they are softer than the cooper's and bfg have run in the past.

That's like a useless Amazon review of tires when they're first installed. "These tires look so cool and are way less noisy than my old MT tires with only 75,000 miles on them. They are great! 5 stars!!!!" 6 months later, "These tires are loud and wear bad. They suck!"
