Need some opinions on what needs to be increased or decreased.
Dana 35
4.88 gear
Currently reading .008 backlash
Looks like it needs the pinion shim to be increased maybe?

Thoughts from the gearing guys?
@hosejockey61 I know you just did a 35
Any help is appreciated

Well I’m here now. I feel like the coast side is where I want it, but the drive side seems a bit too high on the tooth. Back lash is .006
Any ideas? Thanks

That looks pretty good. How much did you change it?
I think in the end I shimmed the pinion .003 like @hosejockey61 said, but ended up having to screw around with backlash a little more. But after taking that thing in and out 100 times my brain was mush measuring all the shims.
I don’t even know what my measurements ended up being.

I put it all back together last night, now waiting for some RTV on the rear pinion seal to cure before starting the break in cycles.

I think you nailed it. I know others have mentioned it already, but add some gear oil to your paint and hold a bit more resistance to it. Run it through the pinion 6-8 times to define that pattern more. Strong work.
Awesome thank you, this is the third ring and pinion I’ve done, but I would be ok if I never have to do one again Ha!
