Basically exactly what the title says, is the B&M Short Throw Shifter worth it?
It on facebook for 100$, stated as brand new
I currently have a 2.5" lift, soon to add a BL and MML, as well as an eventual TT
(I've heard this can help with interface after a TT)
From what i've seen this is some peoples favorite mod ever, or not at all worth the price
I'm looking for some more opinions and advice before purchasing

I have one, and I drive like my Jeep is a race car. I prefer it to stock, but not by a ton. The AX15 is not a quick shifting transmission and it kinda takes some fun out of it. It's a preference thing. For $100, I say try it and if you don't like it you can easily get $100 on this forum for it.

Thats for sure true!

Honestly didn’t like mine much. Had it for around 7-8 years now and it’s been about a 50/50 split of being on or off my Jeep. Thought it was cool for a while but really and truly I like the softer feel of stock better. I’d say save the $, although I also understand you’ll never know what you’re missing until you personally give it a try anyways so you’ll probably want to try it regardless. For only $100 that’s a cheap experiment. Much better than the $250 experiment I tried years ago.

Something to note on the AX15 is the vent for the trans is built into the shifter base. I’ve seen a few folks have leaking issues and end up drilling and tapping the base so it can vent properly. Personally I ended up doing that too because it kept busting gaskets and getting fluid all over the top of the transmission.

I have one. It's okay. I definitely would not pay full price for one. My stock one was garbage and the B&M was easier to find at the time than a stock replacement. Throw is shorter which is nice on the trail if you have to reverse real quick. But it takes more force to shift since the pivot point is higher.

My application is AX15 BTW. Not sure what year TJ the OP is asking about.

Yeah, I think AX vs NV might be different feeling, so I think it's important to qualify recommendations with which tranny. I will also say I've owned several sports cars that I put short throw shifters in and loved all of those, so I'm a fan in general. It's just the AX15 is not super well suited to them to IMHO.

I have the NV tranny and would love that B&M, but the cost is like 3x over the AX shifter. I have been looking for years to find one for around $200, but no luck.

+1 for the love it camp. The shifts are shorter and feel much more solid if that makes sense

The AX15 is basically all metal stock and has less to gain than the 3550 with it's stock plastic shifter.

I had one on both my AX15 and NV3550. I like the fact that it got rid of the sloppiness in the shifter. Shifting was much more precise.
Is it going to allow you to shift it like a T56 or a Getrag? No, but it feels a lot nicer.
I would like one for my NSG370, but the cost is just too high right now. I think they are going for close to 600.00 right now.

I have one in my AX-15, and I like the shorter throws and precise shifting. Feels less like I'm shifting an old dump truck.
