I’ve been reading these forums for a decade now, I’m familiar with many of you and have read thousands of posts but I’ve finally decided to make an account. I’ve got a 97 tj sport 4.0 stock, possible 1” lift.. (new engine..jasper😫) the old 4.0 overheated and blew a piston ring and my headers gave out along with it. Lasted over 20 years.. I want to know if anyone else is familiar with (Pace Setter Armor Coat Jeep Header 1991-99 Wrangler 4.0L). These are the headers that came with the Jeep when my father bought it used from the dealer many years ago in 2001. I know the consensus on headers and the preference for the accordion style exhaust manifold… I want to know if any of you have these headers or what you think of the specs.? Thanks

The problem isn't really the headers, its the lack of a flex joint in the exhaust system. When the body/frame flex's there is no wiggle room in the exhaust system for movement and the welds on the header collector crack eventually.

Just about all headers will give similar results in a stock 4.0L, and that isn't much. Headers provide better results with a hot 4.0L or 4.7L stroker. If quality and performance are your top priority I like Doug Thorley's Tri-Y headers.

That Pacesetter is probably just fine as long as it doesn't have any cracks....but install a flex joint in the exhaust as close to the header as possible to prevent future cracks.

My 4.0 from jasper is likely a rebuild.. don’t know if it has more power but I know my gearing was already very peppy. What if I add a mount from the transmission to the exhaust on the opposite side of the oil pan? The specs for the pace setter mention something like that… could stabilize it with a mount and also add a flex joint somewhere along the pace setter system.. considering my mount would be where the pace setter ends.. I’ll look into the Doug throley, thanks!
