Boxing in lower control arm mount

That really weakens the mount. Are you sure you want that?

If @JMT were to cut as described and then plate the bottom of the mount, would he regain most (if not all) of the strength lost? Obviously the plate would need to account for the range of motion of the arm.

My welding is sketchy enough in ideal positioning. It's tempting for me to pull the axle just so I don't have to do it under the rig, even if heat isn't an issue.

Just send it you can always redo it later if it's really that bad. A booger weld is better than no box and no weld šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«
 
I didn't remove mine.

Same. There's not enough direct heat to need to unless you're going in really hot for too long anyway. I also did @lBasket 's without removing the arms (I can't remember what arms he has/had) and had no issues that I heard about.

Thatā€™s good to know. Me and a buddy are planning to weld some mini skids on Thursday.
