So check this out -
Sorting out my 06 Rubicon project- the fan switch started getting touchy, so I ordered a Carquest replacement climate control assembly from Advance-
Installed went smooth- fan works flawless, blend door switch very smooth, and ALL air coming out the defroster-
Jeep being new and mostly driven with the top off wasn’t sure if it worked prior....
Checked vacuum lines, cruise control worked too giving a good indication I had sufficient vacuum from the intake-
Vacuum tested all air lines at the switch -
Every solenoid moved and held vacuum-
At this point I’m stumped-
So on a lark I get my old assembly, remove and hook up the selector switch - works flawlessly.
Verdict- the new assembly had a defective selector switch for the zones/AC.
Three lessons-
1. Don’t trust the new part completely-
2. Talking to other enthusiasts of other vehicles this era, they are also running into parts quality and fitment issues.
3. Non “True Jeep “ owners, the people that own only one, one time- treat them about like riding lawnmowers.
This thing will get a real clean up once I get the mechanical loose ends buttoned up.
As always, Roscoe the Heeler is supervising.
Thanks to Mark at @Wranglerfix , he takes all uncertainty out of the PCM category. He is a class businessman.
Thanks to @Jamison C for solid advice day and night. A true RubiBro.
@Mike Z has been giving feedback and fine tuning his search for a nice rust free manual Rubi- preferrably an LJ- you guys keep him in mind on that.
@John Cooper and @Hog ran off on me over John just having to have some Sahara seats. @Hog said John had a piece of lettuce sticking out of his pants- I asked what was that about ? John said it was just the tip of the iceberg.
Jamison said I have to do a build thread- so I ‘ll see if I can get it on there - to me it’s not a “build” as much as a refurb project -
I’m off in it to meet John tomorrow to relay some 3 1/2- 4” lift coil springs- Summit racing sales 4 for Rancho $131 total- that is a pretty good deal.
Look for this Rubi on the build thread-
Thanks,
Andy G
