What did you do to your TJ today?

So I got everything cleaned up and took my daughter across town to eat dinner. Came out of the steakhouse and see this. It always pays to double check for tools that are left out lmao

Yea $75-$80s worth of luck lol I left my phone on the taillight one day and it made it a couple miles down the road too. Thankfully I have the cages around my lights so it was enough to hold my phone on lol Ol Rusty is looking out for me lol

I had a few parts deliveries yesterday while I was at work but didn’t get to them until today (I work 24 hour shifts, plus an 8 hour class today). So I started in on installing the coolant overflow tank. I tinkered with various places to mount it and configurations. But found a place on the inner fender where there were already 2 holes through the inner fender that lined up with the mounting bracket I used so if I don’t like the location I haven’t done unnecessary damage. I also took the Jeep for a quick spin around the block. This is my first time going further than just down the driveway. I got up to about 40mph and it’s a blast!! My ears were ringing when I got back from my ~4 minute drive. No exhaust, no carpets, and nothing covering the hole in the floor where the shifter comes through. But so worth it. Dropper her off tomorrow morning at the exhaust shop.

@AndyG helped me get my 42RLE to auto-run with overdrive off by configuring a relay to the OD switch. This was a fun mod to do since I rarely use OD. I used posi-tap connectors for the first time (pretty neat but expensive).

For anyone interested, here are the details that Andy again confirmed by wiring his new Rubi and then passed on to me.

Details:

Relay Photo

I chose to stuff my relay in a little pocketed area on the driver-side behind the climate control panel (since I didn't like any of the local mounting options).

Note: This photo shows the relay's metal mounting tab that I later snapped off to have more clearance (since it wasn't being used).

The relay has the option to be wired normally open or normally closed. You want it to be normally open (so the output wire goes to pin 87). When you go into reverse, the relay closes from the reverse power which causes the PCM to "sense" OD-off. Overdrive stays off until you manually turn OD back on or by shutting off the vehicle.

Many thanks to @AndyG for the help and for being awesome. ☺️

Cut some more of the floor pan out and cleaning up rust on the driver side torque box. Cut my factory running boards/ step bars off and plan on replacing the plastic steps with some custom metal tubes or something like that. Gotta get this frame job tackled soon

Recently had some issues that I thought might be a bad ignition switch.

Found this little nugget while taking things apart.

Spliced in a new plug, installed a new multi function switch (turn-signal switch), and installed a new Mopar ignition switch just to be safe.

The original actuator is good so I'm keeping the Dorman as a spare.

The powder-coater offered to do the wiper stalks for $20.00/each while I was there for the bumper. Now they'll go unnoticed rather than be an eyesore.

Finally got under the Jeep, first time under a TJ. Got this TJ last week, Transfer / Lever is stuck solid, now I see why.....NEGLECT. It’s a 2000, and seems like it has never ever seen a drop of grease anywhere. This will be a long journey, to make it a smooth and solid Jeep. Let the TLC begin.........
