One of my high school friends back in 1980 broke his neck on riding one of those. My first experience knowing somebody with a halo!

A guy brought one of those when a bunch of us went dirt biking once. Once. We all went up a long narrow trough (halfpipe). He made it up, but his front tire was down in the trough, with his rear tires up on the sides. He was going uphill, but he was pointing downward the whole way. I think he broke a brake pedal, a brake lever, a clutch lever, and bent the handlebar and a rear axle on that trip. And tipped over a dozen times. If you're gonna ride that thing, wear some good gear.

I watched my Dad get sucked under the rear wheel of a Big Red when he put his foot down in a turn like you would on a motorcycle, it happened so fast he didn't know what happened. I had a Yamaha TriMoto 175 that was a wheelie monster in the 90s.

Thanks for that reminder. When I worked in the oil patch on the wireline side, we had to run down to another station over near the Texas border. They were bored most of the time so they took a crashed 3 wheeler and a crashed Kawasaki 900 and built a 3 wheeler rear axle and swing arm with the 900 seat, motor, and front forks. They said no one would ride it again after the test run where the driver put his foot down and the rear tire sucked him under and then ran over him.

edit- forgot to mention that the reason he got sucked under the rear tire is due to the throttle on a bike working so you rotate it towards the rear and down. So, when you put a foot down, tire climbs up your leg, you turn the throttle the right direction to make sure it has enough RPM to get you fully drug off the contraption and run over. I seem to recall that most if not all the 3 wheelers had a thumb throttle you pushed away from you to accelerate for that reason.

I started on one of the first Honda ATC 90's to get sold. Learned how to ride that thing like Evil Kenival. It had the Ballon tires on it.

Then I got a 250 big red, talk about a blast!!! Wheelies without trying and it would run probably 55mph or better.

Then I got a street bike and had to relearn everything I knew.
