I have a 98 TJ and after tumbling the seat forward, it won't slide back when you pull the lever in front. I look under it and can see something that is popping of a stud or something when lever is lifted. Anyone know how these work and what hopefully common problem I'm seeing? I just can't get a good look in there to figure out how it all works. Figure someone may know. Hunting with my daughters and they're not thrilled with their knees jammed into there chest. Lol

Had mine apart to replace the seat back ratchet or what ever you call the part that adjusts the tilt of the seat back. Sorry I did not pay more attention to the fore and aft mechanism. But I do remember only four bolts to remove the seat. I would suggest taking it out, lay it on its back and examine the mechanism. Best guess is only one side is releasing, due to a bad linkage wire or something.

Fairly common for the cable end to get disconnected, or some other issue with the seat release mechanism, as in the sliding catch release. As mentioned above, removing the seat will help immensely to diagnose what is happening. You could even mount the seat on a platform outside the Jeep if you want to have it stationary while you check stuff out. It's almost impossible, almost, to find and fix in the TJ...

Both of my cable ends popped off and I just found where the lever is that was attached to the cable and pull that up when I need to flip the seat. It might be an easy fix but I just don't use the flip up feature enough to warrant pulling the seats out.
