Playing with fire

I know it's not a Jeep but I'm always pushing the limits in my TJ. My low fuel light comes on at 15 gallons and about 250 -265 miles

LOL here's my last ran out of gas story last June in the middle of summer in the middle of the desert on i10 on the way to Cali 60 mile stretch of no gas stations between Tonopah and New Hope AZ in my aircooled 63 beetle. I cruised past Tonapah thinking ehhhhhhh I got enough (started in Tucson). Made it about 55 miles.

*Note the speedo.

My 2 buddies were 3 hours behind me.

AZ DPS pulled me to the next exit off ramp at the gas station in New Hope AZ and right up next to the gas pump.

Flawless victory.

210 miles on 10 gallons.

But since the car ran dry I had to push the car over to a small hill to gravity feed some gas back to the fuel pump for it to start again. Started right up and 70-80mph the rest of the way to Cali.

I need to fix my tank burping too. Every time I get low I say to myself, on track is empty so I'll fix it this weekend. It still hasn't happened yet and my gas light is currently on. 🤣

I did the same thing, kept putting off the gas burp fix. Then one day I tried to fill it and the float had moved up and stuck in the can't-fill-it position. It took 5 minutes to squeeze in two gallons with a long line of cars behind me. Don't trust that gas burp to stay the same forever.

It's also fuel pump dependent. One of the gas stations close to my house has a different style pump than the others. Jeep burps up fuel at 95% of the gas stations. But never burps at this particular station. It's the only one I go to now.

That said, I left the hose on the half flow setting once at this station, and the damn pump didn't cut off. I had gas literally overflowing the Jeep and splashing out on the ground before I noticed. Not my safest moment.

i need to start paying more attention to which stations I'm at when it does or doesn't do it. I usually just watch for the lowest price.

Better off to fix it and never worry again.

I'll take care of it for sure, but I'm probably gonna wait until I'm in my house to take that on. I'm way past annoyed and lost all motivation with working in a rent house garage that's doubling as a storage unit and has crappy lighting, no work benches or peg boards or anything to organize tools outside of chests and boxes. Probably 6-7 months out yet.

I was going to do the same with my transmission swap, but I don't want to miss another year of 4 wheeling. When I did my YT video for prepping the AX15 I had to cut out a bunch of heavy breathing sounds because apparently I breathe more loudly with my rib cage resting on my femurs.

The Jeep todo list literally never gets shorter, no matter what I do.
Need to stay off this site.
This is a good one that doesn’t cost anything. I did the GM fix and it helped. Did the new fix and it fixed it. Worth the time.
