Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Went out and turned the heaters back on since it just isn't going to be warm enough to paint with just the outside temperatures. It was 57* when I went out there and it was 2* warmer when I came back inside so hopefully it will be warm enough when I head back out tomorrow.

Edit: I just hated to turn these heaters back on. I'm not gunna tell you what my electric bill was but it wasn't fun to pay.

Eastwood got back to me this morning in response to my email asking about temperatures and if there was a different activator I could use.

HI there,
That primer does not have different speed activators and should be used above the temps of 60-70 degrees at the lowest.

Hopefully my garage is warm enough.

you gonna wear a respirator, i would if the doors closed and i'm working in a confined area?
fumes or overspray flammable?

i might warm up the garage and jeep then cut it off .......spray it down, then crack the door vent the garage for several minutes with a fan and then fire up the heater again for a few hrs with some fans runnin to circulate the air.

Yes I have a respirator. I was planning on cracking the doors just a bit but that isn't a bad idea to open them more to vent when I'm done.

Garage is only getting up to 65* today but we only had a high of 45* so it wasn't what you'd call a warm spring day. Saturday, Sunday & Monday it's supposed to warm up to the low to mid 60's so I might be able to paint on those days. Either that or I'll have to wait for it to get warmer.

I've got some other things I could be doing but I'd hope to get this done first so I could start assembling things as I went along. I've still got to disassemble my winch and get it ready to be rebuilt. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to go with 125' or 150' of rope. And I've got to look at the rope that is one it currently as I was hoping I could reuse some of it to make a extension plus a few soft shackles.

Waiting for better / warmer days is a good plan....(I've gotten very used to working around the weather!)

texas sent us some summer temps this wk and i been tryin clean and spray the trailer.............under 70* and nothin dries right.

sucks cause your ready to go, but it'll be a better result if you wait a few degrees.

You should have heard the crap blowing on my garage last night. When it's windy around here you know the weather is going to change. I just hope it's for the good and warms up some. But yep I've spent too long on this thing to mess shit up now. Or anymore than I already have so far...

Hail two nights this week. Too bad only one of my vehicles fits in my 3 stall right now. Luckily it was only marble sized.

A hard lesson that I learned years ago painting a street rod frame for a friend is that it also matters if the surface that you are painting is up to temperature. I had done the primer and base coat the day before and they went down great but the heater ran out of propane overnight. It probably got into the 30’s or 40’s in the shop. I got the heater restarted and got the air temp back up and proceeded with clear. It ran the second it hit the cold frame so bad that I couldn’t sand it out and had to repaint.

Of course the weather isn't cooperating yet for me to paint so I'm working on other stuff.

Need some input from body people. If I use the filler piece from GR it's right on this body seem on the rear of the tub.

If I remove a 3" section of it will it affect the tub?

The cardboard cutout is the outside and inside of the filler piece.

That’s about where I run mine. No issues with the tub. My only issue with that bezel is that it’s a bit fragile.

I actually trimmed the leading edge to place it closer to the fender. I miss that seam that way.

OK I'll go back and look at your build on JF... I think I could even slip the edge up under the flare since it's removable.

I started off moving the fuel filler over just a little. I'll figure out if the flare will fit over it and if not I'll trim it but I'm missing the body seem now.

Then I worked on making a tab for the bottom of the corner armor. To make the Metal Cloak corners fit with the Savvy sliders I'd cut the corners back so that they didn't have a spot down lower for a bolt.

As @NashvilleTJ has stated many times a Plasma cutter saves you tons of cutting and grinding.

Then clean them up with a flapper disk.

Then set them up in place.

Got both sides done.

So another little project finished. Got to stop early today so I can take my daughter out to dinner for her 20th birthday.

Tomorrow I'll cut out the spot for the filler neck. And then get the holes drilled for all the corner armor.

I'd forgot this picture. This shows the outside of the corner and why there isn't any hole to mount into the tub now. I think these mounting tabs should work ok and help keep the corner from getting peeled away.

I'm also thinking I'll add an extra bolt close to the flare but not yet sure exactly were.
