Air won't come out of vents

I had the same issue with my 97 tj a few years ago and fixed it with a screw also. Since then it has failed again. I guess I could try a larger screw although I wouldn't mind replacing it if I could find the part.

Great info guys!

I solved all of my damper/control problems by swapping the HVAC Control Unit, also replaced the blower, although OEM unit is probably still good. turned out to be a short on the back of the center controls melted a vacuum line. replaced that electrical unit and solved everything.

Is that potentially a mod P.O did for the trail to stop dust intake?

I have another thread here for this, but then I saw and read this. I have an 05 tj, put in an "Jeepair" brand ac system. When I have the old non ac control head the vent selector works in all positions correctly. When I put in the new control head (ac version) I only get defrost. Called jeep air and they sent me a new control head. Tried it and same thing, only defrost. Does anybody know the differences between ac and non ac versions?

Having a similar issue and would like opinions in trouble shooting, originally had no fan ir selector
-replaced control panel with a new one which resulted in AC and Heat (all speeds) but only at defrost and floor.
I've checked the vacuum line under the hood with no cracks or obvious leaks located. (Including from reservoir under battery)
-ordered a new vacuum hose assembly anyway and it will be here next week.
-blend control on new panel rotates as it should.
Cruise control operates normally.

So what next? Does the fact that the cruise control functions eliminate vacuum as an issue? Does this point to the blend door actuators?

Sounds like a blend door actuator.
Just because it rotates does not mean that it did not snap at actuator-door point.
What year is your Jeep?

If it is indeed that, you will have to get creative as there are no spare parts available for our years.
I used JB plastic epoxy a couple of years ago, eventually it failed and i was back to square one with air only out of floor and defroster.

Personally i am not a fan of cold air blowing at me so my preference is using a defroster vents, and it feels like defroster is better at keeping front area cooler, however that often creates condensation on the windshield. So what i did is fixated a blend door with a screw in a position that gives 50/50 air flow split between front vents and defroster.

Im sorry, looks like i skipped through your post and didn't noticed that you have replaced a control panel, and now dealing with this issue.
Further more in previous reply i wrongfully referred to a different part as door actuator. I am under assumption that your issue lies in a lever that connects actuator to a blend door.

Door actuator is simple to check, turn control planed to different settings and watch/feel them move. Actuator that is responsible for redirecting air between front and defrost vent is located where i circled red and you can feel it by reaching through where i placed my hand.

Get a handheld vacuum pump at harbor freight

You can check every circuit - if it operates the actuator and holds vacuum

Also the white 06 diverter fitting you see here has different size fittings than prior years, not much but enough to matter.

I tried to delete this post but can't. I had inadvertently disconnected the hoses on the drivers side that runs the actuator. Connected up and I'm all good.
